Afternoon Dibbers
Been looking at expanding my places to visit in the old US of A. Anyone been to DC with children? Is there much to do? One week sufficient? Thanks

There is a HUGE amount to do. Its a great play to stay with kids. The museums alone would take you a week. I would probably not stay a whole week as I like to move around but I think we did 4 nights there and could have stayed longer.
The Air Space museum is an absolute must. One of the best museums int the world. The Nautural history is also great along with many more. We took a duck tour from Central station and also got to tour the capital building which was a real highlight. They were not in session and you could go to areas normally out of bounds.

You'll fill a week easily - there's so much to do in DC. One of the best places we ever went to.

Loads to do in DC, all the museums along the mall, all the monuments, White house etc. It's a great place for kids. We did 3 days but could've easily filled a whole week.

We visited with 2 teenagers and all loved it, much preferred to NY! . It is a very clean city, wide sidewalks, very walkable and we walked lots. Lots of nice neighbourhoods to explore.
Obviously there are the usual places to visit down by The Mall, JFK grave over at Arlington, Georgetown is lovely and walkable with different shops and lots of restaurants on the Potomac. All museums are free apart from Udvar Hazy, this was amazing, we visited on the way back to the airport, don't miss it. |

We're going with our 8 year old in a couple of months. We have 4 days, but struggling to fit in everything we want to do in to the plan, so I'd say there is lots!
We have been unable to request White House which our son was interested in as it is advised that foreign visitors do through through the representative for DC, and the website is currently defaulting to an error when you try. We have managed to get a Pentagon tour though, and have learned that although you can request the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in advance, you can also get same day tickets - this one sounds good as you get to see dollars being printed! We've also got tickets to go inside the Washington Monument and are planning on hiring bikes to ride down the Mall and take in the monuments - our son will love the cycling even if the monuments get boring! Udvar Hazy is still free - there is only a charge for parking airandspace.si.edu/udvar-hazy-center This is one of the driving reasons for our trip - my husband has been desperate to go for a long time, so this and the companion Air and Space are on the to-do list for sure! Good to hear this as we've also just booked tickets for this one! |
