We went through a travel agent booking through Virgin, they got the car through Holiday Autos, who in turn went through Alamo, where we collected it on Car Rental Boulevard.
It's a 2 door Economy, a Chevrolet Cobalt. It was a nice car, but a little cramped. We'd use it again, but probably next time will go for a larger car. Lots of boot space though, got 2 suitcases in easy. Edited at 08:02 PM. Reason: I removed the pics by accident! |

Here's ours...
Place you picked the car up from:- Orlando International (MCO) Catergory of car hired:- Luxury Make of car you got:- Cadillac DTS Hire car company used:- National Here's the car at the Villa: Some pics of the interior: Here's the rear accomodation (pic a bit fuzzy - apologies) Pics of the 4.6V8 heart of the car : The boot was easily big enough to swallow all of our luggage (for 2 adults and 2 kids): With space to spare: The DTS was very nice to drive - didn't feel that fast to begin with as the V8 is a traditional US lazy V8, though as soon as you floor it, it does move, and it sounds great. It averaged 19.9mpg (US gallons), though only cost me $50.21 to fill up when totally empty. I can't remember the range, but it was just over 300 miles. That equates to about 8p per mile in fuel - in comarison, my Skoda Superb diesel which can easily do 50mpg on a run costs 12p per mile on fuel here... My Skoda isn't small, but it certainly felt it after spending 2 weeks and 970 miles in the Cadillac. We were going to go for a SUV (Dodge Durango or similar) but don't regret getting the sedan. The Website for National (same as Alamo?) listed the Cadillac DTS as the luxury car on it's website, though at the airport, also available in the luxury category were - Chrysler 300C and a Cadillac SRX crossover. It would be useful to know from people what else is available in certain categories (what is actually offered at the airport). We actually had a choice of 3 or 4 DTS's in different colours - the luxury car row was about 12 cars in all (though they were probably just the ones that were full of fuel, having opted for the full tank option). I saw loads of Dodge Chargers over there which look great - some very nice ones at Kissimmee Old Town. Also hired sat nav (Garmin) which was a waste of money. It was good on the first night trying to find the Villa Management place to get the keys, but loads of places didn't come up on it including our Villa (2 years old), Kennedy Space Centre, and some roads in St Petersburg which had definately been there way longer than sat nav was invented! [15th January 2012 1507hrs - Edit to add - site hosting my pics has gone - I'll get them uploaded elsewhere so they re-appear here] Edited at 08:43 PM. Reason: Uploaded pics from another source as old one gone.. |

In 2006 we flew into Miami, so we picked up our hire car from the off-airport Dollar depot here. I really wanted a Dodge Durango, so I paid for the upgrade:
We cruised around Miami in it for a few days, and then drove down to Key West. I loved the car, but DW (who is disabled) found it just TOO difficult to get into and out of because of the height of the seats. So we drove it back from Key West to Orlando, but then went to the Dollar depot on I-Drive and exchanged it for a Grand Cherokee: The Grand Cherokee is still a big car, but the seat height is about 4 inches lower than the Durango. lefthanded I'm in a Sunshine State of mind.

Place - Orlando international airport (Easter 2008)
Company - Dollar via Car Hire 3000 Category - 8 seater van but free upgrade to 12 seater van Make & Model - Ford E350 Impressions of the van ... well I didn't take many pics it was a bit of a beast and we called her Bessie. OK for a really large group with lots of luggage even space under the bench style seats plenty of drink holders and the aircon was good even far at the back LOL you had to shout to the kids in row 4 ! The doors at the side allowed those in row 3 and 4 to get in without clambering over row 2 but the step up was a bit of a hike. Oh and the good thing was rear parking sensors! I was a little indifferent about Bessie she suited our needs and the other members of the 'A' Team concluded that next time we'd prefer two smaller cars. |

This is a picture of our more recent hire car from when we were in Miami/keys and orlando
Ford Mustang Convertible Miami International pickup & Orlando international Drop off Budget This has been a car that i have always wanted to hire and it was fantastic. Sorry no pictures of the trunk, but i was suprised at how large it actually was. We had a large roller holdall. (we did see some where people had suitcases on the back seats)! Recommended for couples due to space in the boot! Phil |
