Thanks all I think we’ll try the original first and see how we get on.
It’ll be good to add a bit of context to the land and if we don’t enjoy it we’ll just leave it at the one film. |

I'd suggest watching Star Wars IV - A New Hope first. If you like that then maybe watch Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Also watch Star Wars VII - The Force Awakens. That introduces the characters, theming and setting of Galaxy's Edge. GE is based more on the latest trilogy than on the original trilogy or the prequel trilogy, so it would help if you'd at least seen the Force Awakens. Then watch the rest (you can skip the prequel movies ).

To be fair the only thing linking the original trilogy and Galaxy's Edge is the Falcon and that is the whole point of why Galaxy's Edge is set when and where in the Star Wars universe, it is so doesn't get dated. And that's what upsets the fanatical purists who just want everything based on the middle 2 films.

In 1977 the film was released as Star Wars. I hate it when people call it Episode 4 or A New Hope. It is Star Wars.
Don't mean to single anyone out, yours was the first one to mention A New Hope, so I just went with your post

You're right that it was originally released simply as "Star Wars" in 1977 with no subtitle or episode number.
But in 1981 it was officially retitled to "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope". Most people now refer to it as that so as to avoid confusion with all the other Star Wars movies. (Even saying "the first Star Wars film" is confusing because it could refer to Episode I or Episode IV).

They can rename it as many times as they like, but in 1977 I went to see ''Star Wars'', not a New Hope or Episode IV, so I'll stick with it.

Stick with 'Star Wars', 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi' and ignore the rest.
One other thing - 'Solo shot first!'.

Me too. However, now it's officially called Episode IV: A New Hope. Hence why some people call it that. Because that's its name.
In other news, Opal Fruits are now called Starburst and Marathons are now Snickers.
