I guess we're grown ups now? Nah, maybe next week! Oct 2016 Part 1 - Day 4 Count's Everything

Index

Day 4 - 07.10.16

This morning we were determined to eat at Hash House so we were up at 7:15 and straight out, I didn’t even put any make up on, that’s how devoted I was to getting there! It was a much more welcome sight this morning than it was yesterday, only a few other parties waiting. We only waited for 10 minutes to be seated but in that time the waiting area filled up till it looked like it did when we turned up yesterday so looks like we got there just in time!

We ordered coffee and OJ (which was the nicest OJ ever!) then after a lot of hard decision making Ross went for the Sage Fried Chicken & Waffles which is ‘two sage fried chicken breasts with hardwood smoked bacon waffle tower, hot maple reduction and fried leeks’ and I had the red velvet waffles (red velvet is my fave cake flavour in the world!). The food took a long time to come and they brought the wrong order first time round but it was worth the wait!

This photo is rubbish so below is a better photo of what Ross got, his just looked less pretty! A bit like macdonalds

As warned, the plated were huge! But my waffles were absolutely amazing, so soft and cakey. Ross said his was delicious as well. I hate typing this thing up, makes me so hungry and I know that nothing in my fridge is as good as American food!

Neither of us could finish so we got the left overs boxed up to take away and we also got a drink in a souvenir cup to take with us as well. Total was $65 including tip which wasn’t bad considering the amount of food you get!

It was called a Huckleberry something or other, no idea what was in it but I'm certain it was non alcoholic!

We went back to the hotel and put our leftovers in the fridge and I put some slap on and sorted my hair out. A few hours later we were ready to go. Jokes, I’m actually quite quick at getting ready, don’t ask Ross though, he’ll lie!

We ordered an Uber to the Rio as we didn’t fancy walking all the way there in the heat and we soon learnt that even though something doesn’t look that far away here, it’s probably miles away! I think it cost about $4 so it was definitely worth it.

We were there to play Kiss Monster Mini Golf because A. We love mini golf B. We love a good competition with each other and C. They had a fish tank done by the Tanked people. Once we found it we saw very quickly that there was no fish tank to be found! Two fish tank destinations visited, zero tanks! Fails all round.

Golf was $12 each and it was very bright! UV lights everywhere! If I had my gel nail varnish on my nails would have been bright purple too.

Teeeeeeeth

The holes were fun, some had wheels you had to spin and you had to follow the instructions in landed on. One told Ross to play the hole standing on one leg and it told me to scream ‘Are you ready’ in my best Paul Stanley voice. I have no idea what he sounds like so I just shouted in a rock and roll-ish voice and hoped for the best!

On the second last hole you had a tiny 2 inch long tunnel to go through to get to the hole and my ball stopped right inside the tunnel so I had to get down on my knees and I just snookered the ball through with the wrong end of my club, went straight in! Goooaaaalll!... or the golfing alternative.
Last hole was the most extravagant, putting the ball up Gene Simmons’s tongue!

My epic snooker shot

You can't really tell but I'm doing my best Gene impression

Ross won in the end, only by a couple but it started the crazy golf score card, Ross 1 – Alix 0.
In the gift shop Ross got a set of golf balls for $5 and I got a magnet for $7.

After all of that fun we spotted Counts Tattoos up stairs from the casino. Counts Kustoms is a TV show about The Count aka Danny and his hot rod garage where he refurbishes old cars and bikes, Danny also owns this tattoo parlor, a bar called Vamp'd and has a band called Count's 77. We’re big fans of the show and we’d seen the tattoo shop on it so we went for a nosey. Ross had wanted to get a Jack Skellington tattoo here but he didn’t do very well saving his spending money so he had to settle on looking at pictures in the shop’s sketch books. He’s rubbish at saving!

Ross had a flutter on the blackjack tables whilst I went to the shop to buy a Rio magnet which cost me all of $2. Ross did quite well on the tables and came out $60 up.
We couldn’t get onto the wifi to order an Uber so we used a regular cab outside the hotel to get to Counts Kustoms. The taxi driver wasn’t sure where it was so he googled it and it showed two, one spelt Kounts Kustoms and the other was Counts Kustoms. Now my mind went blank and I couldn’t remember which was the correct spelling so the driver decided to try Kounts first. He said that he needed to drive for a bit, turn left then drive straight and he’d be there so he couldn’t really mess it up, we told him we believed in him which I think boosted his confidence! When we got to the turning he warned us it was the crucial part of the journey, I said ‘okaaaaay just don’t f**k up’! He laughed at that.

Our first stop was at the end of a street in the middle of nowhere, probably not the right place then! Our driver went to ask some guy in a workshop if he knew where it was but he didn’t so we just decided to try the other Counts on the map. The legendary driver switched the meter off and told us we were a team, what a guy! The second stop was the correct one yeeeeeey! He stopped the meter at $17 but we gave him $25 cause he was a total babe and made our day.

First thing we saw outside Counts was Horny Mikes bus and I went all fan girl over it! Mike is my fave from the show, wish he was there!
We went inside the museum which is free and had a good look around. We recognised loads from the show...mini mike on his trike, Danny’s coffin couch and the hearse.

Mini Mike!

In the gift shop I managed to talk Ross out of buying one of the big winter jackets he’d wanted and persuaded him to get a hoodie instead which was much cheaper! He also got a beanie hat and I got a fridge magnet, everything came to $94. We asked the cashier if Danny is ever around, she told us that he’s always either in the workshop next door, in his recording studio which is also next door or out looking for cars so he’s pretty much always working! It was nice to hear cause I know that the guys from Pawn Stars never go to the shop unless they are filming or doing a signing event so it’s good to know that Danny still actively works at his business still and not just behind the scenes.

Once we had finished in there they very nicely called us a cab so we could go to Danny’s bar, Vamp’d for some lunch. I can’t remember how much the cab was.

The place was pretty cool. There was a VIP seating area which was roped off which I presume is where Danny sits when he’s in. The telephone booth was made out of a coffin and apparently something scary appeared if you went in and closed the door but I was too chicken to find out!
We ordered a Bud Lite and a Pepsi then Ross got 6 chicken wings for starter and we both had cheeseburgers with fries for our main. The food was ok, nothing amazing!

Total came to $50 including tip. Whilst in there I called Papillon to confirm our helicopter tour (which we had to do 24 hours before hand), the lovely lady told me that a white Papillon mini van would pick us up from the underground tour lobby of the Aria at 3pm tomorrow, all sorted!

We tried getting wifi in there but couldn’t so we asked the waitress if she could call us a cab and she looked at us like we had just asked her to commit murder for us. Wow, sorry love it’s not like we just tipped you a butt load or do you automatically stop being nice to us once we’ve paid you?! She reluctantly agreed so we went outside to wait for it.

It was waaaaarm today, so nice to sit out in! Beautiful. We waited an absolute age for the taxi, the couple sat in the beer garden offered to get us hooked up to the staff wifi (the guy has connections apparently) to get us an Uber which was nice of them but as soon as he came outside with the wifi password our taxi pulled up, never mind!
The driver was good people, he told us about his jack Russell called Ace so we swapped jack stories the whole way. The total to get back to the hotel was a horrifying $35 so we vowed from that moment on, no more taxis! Ubers only!

In the hotel lobby we got concierge to print our Criss Angel tickets for us and the guy said we had great seats which made me super excited! We headed upstairs so I could get ready then we headed out. I had anticipated gross air conditioning in the theatre so put jeans on and took my check shirt with me. It was faaaaaar too hot outside in jeans but I knew I’d appreciate the extra coverage when I was inside.

Whilst walking through the Bellagio we heard the sweet sound of the piano but it was not our Silver fox, it was in intruder! We left as quickly as possible in protest of this dark haired younger monstrosity!

So I sweated the entire way up the very busy strip until we got to the Luxor at about 6:15pm. When making our way through the Casino to the theatre some guy stopped us as asked us if we wanted discount show tickets... erm ok what’s the catch? He took us over to the desk and handed us over to another guy who showed us all the tickets we could get and asked us to chose our favourite, we chose a Cirque show and he told us he could get us great seats for $30 each. Seriously though mate, what’s the catch?! Oh we only had to go to a time share meeting for a few hours blah blah blah... no. I told him it was our last full day tomorrow (lies!) and we had stuff to do and didn’t want to waste our time at a time share thing. He tried to talk us round and I will admit I’m usually a push over and I will say yes to anything to save hurting somebody’s feelings but today I was feeling confident (I hadn’t even had a drink!) so I said no absolutely not and just walked away before he could say anything else.
Phew! Dodged a bullet there!

So once we finally managed to get to the theatre without any further rude interruptions we had a look at Criss’s collection of motorbikes then randomly had our photos taken by some guy who gave us a ticket to buy the photos after the show... oookay! It was time for some drinks. Ross got 2 bud lites and I got a strawberry daiquiri which came to $26 and I also got a magnet for $4 then headed in to find our seats. After a few mins of being sat some lady came to us to take our photos and she made us do all kind of soppy poses, it was like doing photopass at Disney but this certainly wasn’t free!

Without any spoilers the show was incredible! I’m always in utter awe of magicians and he was the best I’ve ever seen, it helps that he’s easy on the eye!
It may have helped that my daiquiri was stroooong and I was tipsy throughout but I think it would have been amazing stone cold sober, Ross certainly thought so anyways. It also wasn’t as air-conny as I had thought so I was wearing jeans for no reason! Ah well.
It was mind blowing, a little creepy sometimes, a tad gross and also very emotional at the end. I’d recommend it any day of the week, if you like magic then go see Criss Angel please!

On our way out we managed to see the photo album with all of our photos in it so lovingly put together, unfortunately all of the photos were gross so we left the album on the table and ran, I have no idea how much it would have cost us!
Ross couldn’t resist the call of the tables any longer so had a flutter at blackjack and broke even. Better than losing!

In the lobby we found a shop so I could get a magnet, Ross also got some dice that had been played in the MGM and some cards that had been played in the casinos (can’t remember which ones) which were only .99c a deck and buy one get one free which was a pretty good deal!

Since I had forgotten to get a magnet from Mandalay Bay yesterday we walked though the mall that connects the two, in which they were playing the song on the end credits of Tangled, passed the Minus 5 Ice Bar which we had wanted to go in to find their Tanked fish tank but just not today, finally getting to Mandalay Bay! We quickly found a shop so I could grab a hotel magnet and a shark reef magnet and then went back out onto the strip for the long walk home!
I wanted to go to the Shake Shack at NYNY on the way back but the queue was out the door so we passed!

Once we got back to the hotel Ross decided he wanted beer so we got some from the little shop in the lobby and took them upstairs to have with our leftovers from breakfast. We used the microwave in the room. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite as good re-heated as it was fresh but it filled a hole! We ate while watching the fountains then headed to bed at 12.

We found the place ok but then we're turned away twice as they were filming! We did get in at Welderup Garage and that was very good.

What a good day. Your show sounds amazing. Well done for being so strong with the timeshare guy - we got caught with one a lot of years ago in Palma Nova and lost 3 1/2 hours of our day to something that we had no intention of buying.

We get to the pawn shop a bit later on in the trip and found its not quite how it appears on the show but as you said, at least we can say we've been!

Oh no! That's a shame. Hopefully one day you'll get in. I've not heard of Welderup, it that from a tv show too?
