Extra charge from Avis?

After reading on here about Avis I was extra vigilant about making sure we had no extra charges when we returned our car on Monday. Receipt said 0 and no extra Charges. We pre paid for our Tank of fuel when we collected so we could return empty, lo and behold today they have taken £164 from me. Am unimpressed to say the least. I'm not a preferred member so have no way of checking it online. Will be making phone calls and will stick to Alamo from now on x

Did you book with Avis direct or with someone like BA?

You don't need to be a preferred customer to check your invoice online

BA flydrive package. Collection and drop off at Tampa. After reading on here how Avis has been I made sure everything read 0.00 so cant figure out why £164 has been taken x

The charge could be your deposit which usually drops back off a few days later, same thing happens with all rental companies.

Message AVIS on twitter or FB and they should be able to clear it up.

Does your receipt have anything against (net charges) above the amount due which would say 0?

I had similar with budget - I emailed and it was a fuel charge which they are reimbursing as we took it back full

How long after you returned did this charge come out?

We landed yesterday afternoon after a long delay at Chicago and saw the charge this morning x

I had this exact problem last year. I used twitter to contact them, they requested further details via a message and once I’d supplied it all to them the whole problem was dealt with and I had a refund within a couple of days.
Incidentally, I contacted BA at the same time (as it was a fly drive) and they got back to me a week later to say it would take a further two weeks to look into it, only for them to say I needed to contact Avis directly after 4 weeks!
