Who is giving you away?
If anyone?
I don't have any contact with my dad (who would be the traditional choice) so I was going to ask my mom. But now I think I might ask my brother as I think he would be really honoured to have such a big part in the day and ask my mom to do a reading. |

I had my brother give me away due to a wicked stepmother not allowing my dad to go to my wedding.I have never seen him so proud as he did when he walked me down the aisle.

My mom has already pondered who would give me away and told me she couldn't do it as it should be a man lol! Bless her. Our wedding is totally non traditional anyway so I don't know why she is worried about that. If I ask my mom to do a reading she will feel just as involved and I think she'd rather watch me walk down the aisle than walk down with me.
I can't believe your dad wasn't "allowed" to go to your wedding, that's awful. I think my brother will be the same. He's already told my mom he wants to go shopping with me and her soon for an outfit for himself as he wants to "look really good" on our wedding day. He never normally bothers at all about his appearance. I think he's really looking forward to it |

This has been something thats been on my mind a fair bit recently. When I first told my parents we were getting married they said congratulations and that was pretty much it. That was a few months back now and they haven't mentioned a word about it since. My mum doesn't even know I have my dress, or that we have changed from the cruise wedding to Vero Beach, they are just not interested. I try to kid myself that I'm not bothered as they have always been pretty much disinterested in anyting I do. But I was kind of hopeful that they would show some interest in my big day. I am putting a bit of a brave face on but it is upsetting me.
The first thing that DH2B's parents did when we told them was ask if they could come. I'm really happy that they will be there. But even though my dad could give me away if he wanted to, I would feel bad letting my FIL do it. So I think that my eldest DS will walk me down the sand.

No one, I hate the reason & tradition behind it. The giving away is the passing of property from father to husband.

Awww Leanne, families can be so hurtful.
I sort of know how you are feeling though. My family and our two closest friends (who are a couple) were ecstatic when we said we were getting married in Florida and that we wanted them to be there. OH's family kind of said "thanks but I don't think it is my kind of thing". They've all made financial excuses but they are all fairly well off. Even his mom and dad aren't coming, and both have said it is due to finances. But his dad is planning to tour the States in May and his mom is having a big luxury 5* all inclusive type holiday to Cypress in the summer! IMO they could have sacrificed their holidays to come to Florida, see their eldest son get married and had a bit of a holiday as well! OH never lets on he's that bothered but I know inside it bothers him more than he says and it definitely bothers me! My mom said she'd do ANYTHING to see us get married! She'd take out a loan if she couldn't afford it or go without something else because it means so much to her to watch us get married. But OHs family just don't seem bothered at all. Sad really |

Nobody gave me away - i walked down the aisle with my husband to be.
We had a small wedding in a church in St Andrews, Scotland. Then our reception in the Old Course Hotel where we were staying. There were only 8 people there. Me and DH, his parents, my sister & her DH and my hubbys brother and his DW. Unfortunately both my parents had passed away and i couldn't face a big family wedding without them. We arrived at the church together and walked down the aisle together - sod all those silly superstitions. It was the best day of my life Just remember it's up to you - it's YOUR wedding

Not that we've decided where we are going to get married yet, when we do, it will be our 2 sons who walk me down the aisle.
I've long left home, and my Dad wouldn't expect to 'give' me away anyway! Families and weddings seem to cause no end of problems. We are probably going to get married in Florida, for a couple of reasons - we love it there, my closest family will come with us, and we know H2Bs family won't come out, which stops him worrying about offending people he doesn't want to invite to a wedding in the UK.
