Hiring an RV in the good ole U S of A...
Random question please, has anyone hired an RV in America & done a road trip ?
Just looking for any advice please on how you go about picking it up in one state/airport & dropping it back in another state/airport ? Is that even possible, or do you incur huge charges ? Edited at 07:33 AM. |

We did a round trip from Vegas around the canyons in 2016 . Used cruise America for the rv hire. You can (usually) do a quote in their website for a one way hire. It sometimes incurs extra charge, depends on how close the states are I think . If you were to make it into a round trip you’d use lots more miles and fuel anyway .
Best to try and get mileage etc included in oackage but don’t bother with bedding, total crap, we had it included but bought our own from Walmart when I saw it ! Happy to help with any questions. |

After first doing the Canadian Rockies in 2015 we are now converts and would rather do this type of trip than any other. We've done another Canadian tour and two trips out of LV, one staying below the Grand Canyon and the other circling it. There is plenty of opportunity in that area for freedom camping.
Each time we have received new or nearly new vehicles except for last year when we used Cruise America in LV for the first time; their fleet tend to be older and are quite basic. Had the current situation not arisen we would now be in the south east of the US, having picked up from Orlando and a planned trip comprising Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, North & South Carolina, and Georgia. Planning to do it instead next March. They are quite easy to drive but make sure someone spots you when reversing into spaces or campsites. I would agree with taking or buying your own bedding and towels and using it on other trips; what you get from the renters is very basic. Happy trip planning!

Canadian Rockies: Traveland RV, Langley, BC. 25ft European style C-class on a Mercedes chassis, diesel engine. Was brand new and a breeze to drive, like driving a long wheelbase Sprinter.
Toronto: Canadream. 32ft C-Class on a Ford chassis, petrol engine. It only had about 3,000 miles on it. A proper behemoth but easy to drive; our daughter (23yrs at the time) was a first time driver and she was a natural. Las Vegas: Road Bear, booked through Ideamerge.com - 27ft C-Class on a Ford chassis, petrol engine. Rented at the end of the season in October; when we took it back they were going to put it into auction even though it had less than 30k on the clock. They only keep them for one season. Las Vegas: Cruise America, booked through Motorhome Republic. 30ft C-Class on a Ford chassis, petrol engine. Had about 35k on the clock but was dirty and in desperate need of replacing. Poor CS at this branch and I would go back to Road Bear if renting in LV again. Orlando: Cruise America, booked through Motorhome Bookers. Booked a 25ft C-class but of course didn't get there. Only two renters in Orlando and our friends had a good experience from this branch last year. It is always more expensive to book direct so try through an agent; the three we used are much of a muchness but only Motorhome Bookers charge in sterling. Cruise America tend to be the cheapest but that is reflected, from our experience at LV, in the state of the vehicle and the CS. Good luck.

Very useful information, thanks.
We have the Trailfinders brochure to start planning a summer 2021 USA road trip in an RV - has anyone used them? Any other tips would be very welcome. |
