Unfortunately Tweety it would have been in the t&C's when you bought the miles. So unfortunately you won't get that back.
You may be able to claim back some of the accomodation costs provided you took out adequate insurance and I would definatley speak to your insurance provider about what you have paid for and see what they say. I understand wait times are looking like an 1hr plus for most things at the mo.

I have never been too concerned as who would ever have thought VA would ever be in trouble financially! I’m happy really to keep them as miles as I would use them BUT it’s the uncertainty of whether them like others survive this
I hope these firms survive as tourism is massive and if that goes that too will affect the economy massively. So shouldn’t these companies be helped to stay afloat?(I know Virgin like others are greedy)

My flights have been cancelled now and paid for extra miles for 1 of the flights. I was just refunded the miles to the account and told that there could be no refund for buying miles. That was a seprate transaction and not related to the flight cancellation.

If you rented points then normal travel insurance should cover you as you have not used any points but paid cash for a room which would then not be available exactly the same as paying cash for any other accommodation.
Only DVC owners themselves need to have specific insurance that covers point use not people renting points.
