why does modern life hate me ? (join in)

a rework of an old thread but I was reminded of the challenges of modern life tonight at Tesco.

Self scan is an art / challenge in its self by why oy why to stores insist on printing bar codes on the corner of a product (Tesco crumpets is a case in point) so even the seasoned scanners dont even have a chance of getting the scan to work ?

Go on - join in !

Agree with you on the barcodes. Particularly when it goes over the edge or when the reduced barcodes has a gap so that it doesn't read!

Tpday my work photocopier decided to play up, not good for a Friday afternoon, grrrrr!

Self check out I can cope with but our Tesco has the scan as you shop gadgets. Well it takes twice as long to shop and then clearly I don’t look trust worthy because on the few times I’ve used them I have had to get them checked by the store assistant to make sure I haven’t stolen anything. I don’t see the appeal. The only time I use them is because DS likes to play shop keeper!

I always try to avoid the self send machines in Post Offices unless there's a long counter queue and someone to guide me.

Self send machine?

Surely that's the big red tall thing you put your post in?

Or when you send yourself through the post like 'flat Stanley ' ? 🤣🤣

Approaches self check out
Brought own bags?
Yes- *presses button*
Place bags in bagging area
*puts bags down and presses done*
Flicks back to scan screen for 0.001 second..
There is something in your bagging area, are you using your own bags?

Yes I thought we’d clarified this when I said I’D BROUGHT MY OWN BAGS 😂

"Please place item in the bagging area"
-Puts item in the bag.
"Item not detected, please place item in bagging area"
-Lifts item up and then puts it back in the bag.
"Item removed from the bagging area, please replace item in bagging area"
-Lifts item back out of the bag and puts it back in.
"Weight verification required - a staff member is on the way"
-Sales Assistants lifts item out and then returns it to the bag.
"Item removed from the bagging area please return"
-Sales Assistant "Let me just enter my code"... Enters code which says item will remain unbagged despite it sitting in the bag.

I mean, what's the point.

EXACTLY, how is this progress? I like to use a quick scan (no issues) or a proper person on a till.
