back after 10 years

Travelling back to Orlando after a 10 year break for no other reason than kids have grown up and we had decided to travel around USA &Europe catching up with our old greek island pre marriage haunts. Well we missed Florida so much we decided to do an impromptu 10 days without kids, We last did it without kids 26 years ago so it will be a bit different. Looking at prices we have decided to leave Disney out and do universal only, With all the changes i just feel Disney are now doing anything they can to keep there guests onsite and ring every last cent out of them.
We have always found Universal OK ... just OK so will be trying out some new things to do off site although we are staying at Universal endless summer surfside so we will at least have early entry and no parking charges at the park, Just hotel parking.
We love Celebration and chill times so non park days will be something similar, If anyone has suggestions i will gladly check them out.
Has anyone done chain of lakes @ winter haven or day trips to cocoa beach for example

Ive just had a night at Surfside. Whilst it is a value, I loved the pool, early entry and the vibe of the place. Plus the coaches stop at surfside first then go to Dockside, unless first thing in the morning

I absolutely loved Universal this time
I also love Disney despite the changes - its the new normal !

I always love a stroll around Old Town, even if just for the nostalgia (One of the places we went to on our first holiday about 25 years ago).
