Any views on staying in Downtown Miami?
We currently have four nights booked at a hotel on South Beach. We have free cancellation but it's a location we have stayed at previously so I feel quite comfortable about staying there.
DH is quite keen to look at other places and has found a really nice Marriott hotel in Downtown Miami, it doesn't have free cancellation and only a couple of rooms left. We can get a cab to the beach if we need to, but just wondered how safe it will feel there? Will we want to go out in the evening with the kids and walk about or will we end up stuck in the hotel every evening? Our children will be 16 and 13. Thanks Dibbers

Last year we stayed downtown before a cruise and on the beach after with dd's 16 & 13. We had previously visited downtown but hadn't stayed so it was new to us. We stayed at Holiday Inn Port of Miami, directly across from Bayside Marketplace. Bayside was nice to visit at night but the furthest we walked around the hotel was to CVS on the next block. To be honest, I wasn't really comfortable in the area but it was just myself & dd's.
We love Miami Beach, we stayed at the Surfcomber. At night we strolled Ocean Drive, the promenade, Lincoln Road Mall & Espanola Way and always felt safe. I'm not sure where your downtown hotel is located but I'm sure Bayside will be nice to visit at night and nearby is Brickell (sp) with lots of shops & restaurants. |

Thanks, having read a few previous posts on here, I think we're going to stick with South Beach and just visit downtown. We're considering going on the hop on hop off bus tour so we can see a few bits
