It depends on what's wrong. A huge percentage of people suffer from back pain but only a small minority is due to a pathological issue with the spine etc. ( estimated 15%). like others have said Osteopaths, chiropractors or of course a good physiotherapist can be good to help work out what's wrong. However in my experience muscular issues, alignment issues, pelvis misalignment , over tilted ( anterior posterior tilted pelvis) can have a huge effect on back pain as can tight hip flexor or tight hamstrings. Also is it upper back or the more common lower back which is affected. I would strongly suggest a good pt or physical therapist who specialises in lower back pain. I can't guarantee anything as we don't know what's wrong... But if it's muscular then strengthening the back prior to your Florida visit will make a huge difference ... Back pain is horrible, but fixable for a lot of people with the right approach. Do not sit down to it.
Also a great book for those with muscular back pain is treat your own back by robin Mackenzie.

If she hasn't already, she should definitely see a physiotherapist. They can work wonders but you must follow their instructions methodically and persevere with the exercises. In our area you can self refer but otherwise try to get a referral from your GP. My back problems turned out to be due to different leg lengths and a simple insert in one shoe has changed my life! I saw a chiropractor first but really wish I'd just gone straight to the GP. Good luck!
