Everglades?
We are still trying to decide what to do next year as we might be ditching the cruise and driving down to the Keys instead, and if so one of the places to stop en route would be the Everglades. But what is there to actually see/do with 3 young children (3yrs, 5yrs and 10yrs) apart from airboat rides and seeing gators?

Nothing really. We went 5 years ago when ours were 2, 7, 10. I had 3 nights booked and we just stayed for 1 in the end.
The day we arrived we drove from the keys and got there around lunchtime. We did this tour around the Everglades which was quite interesting. We got to the hotel and spent a couple of hours in the pool before bed. The next morning we went out on a boat. This was fantastic as a mummy dolphin and baby decided to follow the boat and were doing all sorts of acrobats. Two of my children found this boring. This finished around lunchtime and there wasn't much else to do. So we returned to the hotel, packed our things, checked out and drove back up to Orlando. I would go again, but just for one night. |

Oh, just to add, we had 3 nights in Marathon and I thoroughly enjoyed this. We went to the nearby beach and it had a great Carribean feel. People were having BBQs on the beach and playing music. Snorkelling was amazing.
We also had a day in Key West and watched the sun set. There was a fabulous atmosphere. I would definitely do this again and even considered it for our trip in just 4 days time! |

When are you going? Between April and November it is full of mosquitoes and agree there really isn't much for children.
"When to Visit the Florida Everglades We visited in November, and temperature was ideal but we did need mosquito repellent even at that time of year. From April to October, insects may make visits unbearable, especially for kids. The wet season begins in June; summers are hot and humid, with many afternoon thunderstorms-- and mosquitoes. Best time to visit is from November to March. Wildlife viewing is best in winter too." Edited at 06:24 PM. |

We will be there mid-Nov. Wasn't planning to stay overnight there and only looking to do 1 day there.
