Anyone done a day trip to the Keys from Miami?

This is what we did we had 2 nights. It is a long slow road and you need to stick to the speed limits as it is patrolled.

I know you've probably already decided what you're going to do but we've just done this very thing... flew into Miami, stayed in a motel in a Florida city then spent a day driving down to key west and back up again.

I'm glad we did it but it's VERY busy down there and everything is very expensive. If I were to give any advice I'd go half way down and not bother with key west. Also if you want to do things like the turtle hospital you need to book in advance

Thanks, we are still not decided. Seems a shame not to go as we are so close but after a long flight we are not sure we want to spend all day in a car/bus and most of the reviews I have read say the same as you - overpriced & busy. Our son has autism and I don't think he would enjoy it. Think we will book the Miami speedboat tour & chill on South Beach instead!
