Gatwick to Heathrow options?

We are flying out from Heathrow next July, but back in to Gatwick. We are going to take the car but Im thinking it would be easier for DH to drop us at our hotel (at Heathrow) then drive down to Gatwick and park up there, so he won't have to trek across London at 06.30 am on his reurn, with luggage too. It will just be my husband returning to the car as I'm staying for another 2 weeks with the kids and then flying back into Manchester which is much closer to home for us.
What are your thoughts on the best way for him to get back to Heathrow after dropping the car off? I'm thinking maybe a coach?

We had the same situation last year, although the other way round. We were flying from Gatwick and back into Heathrow.

We boked the Premier Inn North at Gatwick for the night before, so we drove to Gatwick, parked in the short stay carpark and took all our luggage to the desks for twilight check in. Then DH drove off round the M25 to purple parking at Heathrow (used our Tesco clubcard vouchers to pay for this) where the car was going to be left for 2 weeks.

He caught the National express shuttle bus that runs between the 2 airports (£25) back to Gatwick where he could easily walk to our hotel across the road.
We just had our hand luggage, so we all met up in the hotel about 3 hours later.

It was abit of a hassle, but it meant it was very straightforward when we came home.

Thanks for that, yes it is a bit of a faff but I suppose it'll be better than doing it after a long flight! Looks like he'll be going by coach then!
