Alamo vs Upgrades
Greetings one and all,
I head out to Florida for a solo mission in Jan 2016, I as a normal rule book the most bog standard and smallest car and arrive to the desk last from a flight (100% automatic upgrade for free when you go to the garage as no small ones and worked 11 out of 11 holidays) This time however i am wanting to maybe get a convertible for just myself and my one bag, Virgin Holidays want to charge me £140 for the week trip (circa $27 per day) My question is as follows; Do I pay for the upgrade now in the UK or do I wait till i get to Florida and haggle with the the Alamo Guy? To be fair if i don't get a good price, i won't upgrade and will still be happy with the bog standard compact. Speak Soon CC |

I would always recommend booking the upgrade in the UK.
However you are holding all the aces as you don't really care about the upgrade if you can't get it. In your unique case I would go for the haggle and see what transpires.
