A Fairytale in New York Christmas 2016 - Day 9 5th Avenue, Library And Times Square

The day started as usual with breakfast in the hotel. Waffles for O!

And my favourite cinnamon bagel!

We headed out to 5th Avenue. Even at 10 am it was packed. First port of call was Uniqlo. J managed to find a coat and some tops. We also had a Starbucks.

We continued down, popping into a few shops. Nothing caught our eye and it was horribly packed.

We changed avenues onto Madison which was far more easy to navigate.

Lunch was in another deli. Both kids had teriyaki salmon. J had some noodles. I just picked from everybody's plate It was a reasonable $26

We then went to the public library. O would have stayed here hours!

It really is a spectacular place. Though the tourists must drive the actual library users crazy!

O was getting a bit bored so we decided J would take him back to the hotel and F and I would go to Times Square.

It was heaving. They were getting everything ready for New Year's Eve. There were reporters doing segments, lots of stages being built and just generally it was packed.

We had wanted to go to M&M store and Hershey's but there were queues to get in! We were not that desperate.

It was really not a pleasant experience and we soon decided to go back to the hotel.

After a rest at the hotel (well I did the washing! ) we headed back out to Astoria where we revisited the same diner as yesterday.

J and F had the same and O and I had veggie burgers and fries.

The overhead rail track just stops here - suddenly. We didn't quite expect that.

A bit of a bitty day - lacked a plan really.

Numbers of the day: 20,657 (about 15.5km)
Subway rides: 5

Edited at 02:30 AM.

Another good day - the library is just amazing and free too! Did you go downstairs to the childrens section - the original Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and friends are on display down there. Really lovely to see them.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday x

It does look busy! Will you go and see the rockettes while there at radio city music hall? I have been twice but would go again! I was sad that they closed down fao shwarz, the toy shop with the piano from big, it was next to the apple store.
Library looks like a beautiful building.
Happy New Year Mel! Heres to lots more lovely travelling adventures xx

I love the New York library but can imagine it does become annoying for the regular users there.

It's a shame everywhere was too busy for you to enjoy it properly. The downside of this time of year I suppose.

We didn't - I hadn't planned on going - we just happened to be in the area!

We didn't Louise see the Rockettes - I didn't really fancy it for some reason!

It was a shame about FAO Scwarz

I hadn't realised how busy it would be - though if you got away from the main tourist areas it was manageable!
