July holiday

We’re due to fly out on the 30th July and at the moment this is going ahead. We also booked a private villa and the balance for the villa is due 4th June. The person who owns the villa wants me to pay the balance and then claim the money back from insurance company if and when the flights are cancelled. Is anyone else in this situation as I don’t know what to do. I feel if I pay balance my insurance company might not pay out as I would have known flight would get cancelled. Sorry for the saga but just worried x

Until a flight is cancelled, its not cancelled.

An unequivocal concept.

I wouldn’t pay unless you are 100% sure your insurance covers you as many don’t, there will be plenty villas to rent if you had to find another at short notice.

My insurance states that it doesn’t cover accommodation you can’t get to if your travel is cancelled. I would check before paying.

I thought Virgin were starting some services from Heathrow on the 1st July and looking to resume flights from Manchester from the 13th July.

I'm seeing many conflicting articles on this. The latest (25/05/20) states they won't be flying until August at the earliest according to this:

I would also rather lose deposit than be battling insurance for a refund. Of course the villa owner wants you to pay and then try insurance, then the risk is yours not theirs.

There’s no way I would pay for a villa in July at the moment. If you end up going you would have your choice of accommodation because huge numbers have already cancelled.
