Used car advice
Does anyone know anything about used car and HPI. Saw a nice car, dealer said HPI clear, took it for a test drive and paid a holding deposit. Went back home paid for my own HPI and mileage discrepancy alert flagged up saying the National mileage record had car at 70k last year and mot same year was 84. All MOT mileage are what I would have expected. Now I’d have thought if someone had tampered with it the mot would be lower not higher ? So went online to look for servicing and none listed. It’s a Range Rover evoke so not new but still a lot of money for me. Any ideas ?

Did the supplying dealer give you HPI print out ?
Something seems off with the service history unavailable through JLR ? What service history have you actually seen ? Yet, MOT online seems as it should be ? I wouldn't panic just yet, but unfortunately, it appears you need to either go back to ask questions, or do more research yourself first. What is the warranty situation ? Don't be too attached to this particular car. There is no shortage of them right now. Hope it works out OK. |

Their HPI check seems to be based upon previous MOTs which seem appropriate each year, the HPI report I paid for also included National mileage register which showed the lower mileage. Garage offered 3months warranty. I could kick myself that paid holding deposit. Absolutely nothing recorded for service history online at land rover.

There is a huge shortage of used cars out there. My local Sytner garage only has 40% of its normal stock levels.
Also prices are on the rise.

Really is a shortage I agree, with some crazy prices. Just wish I could get to the bottom of this or get my deposit back !

I suspect you will have no problems recovering your deposit if the paperwork is incorrect. Most places don’t wish to get hassle and currently there are more customers than cars.
Best of luck you can get it sorted. Edit. I’m signing for a car on Wednesday and I won’t get it until December maybe January. They are ripping my arm off to get hold of my current car.
