Where to stay in New York?

We are looking at going to New York next May/June for 5 nights. We were meant to be going to Vegas (moved twice now) and we have Premium economy open tickets with Virgin, however the price has doubled for Vegas,so we are now looking at New York.
I’ve never been before and last time DH went was 21 years ago.Has anyone got any suggestions for the best area to stay?or any suggestions of decent hotels?

I stayed on the radisson on lexington back in 2011 and skyline in 2015. Both hotels were in a good location.

We've stayed at the Westin, and the Sheraton both Times Square. Many places are in walking distance. The Sheraton is a short walk from both Central Park and the main part of Times Square, and there's a subway right next door.

The Novotel Times Square is lovely and has much bigger rooms than most standard New York hotel rooms, we found that out the hard way when we stayed at the Sheraton and they were like shoeboxes! Beds were more like a small double .

We atyes at Skyline was very reasonable, nice Deli accrpss the road, we could walk to central park, Times square etc very easily. Room was large, basic but did the job as we didnt spend too long in the room!

We stayed in the Sheraton Times Square, four of us in one room. As others have said the rooms are small. But the location is perfect. Close to Central Park if you head north, close to Times Square if you head south.

We've stayed at the Marriott Marquis Times Square and the NewYorker, both were great but we had slightly more room at the Marriott.
