These are wired systems but she no longer dances as she did when she didn’t want a pump or would only consider wireless does she?

Really glad things were sorted quickly, her flat mates are now aware and her phones sorted but moving forward a closed loop - which would slow &/or stop basal to prevent lows - could be another layer of protection for her growing independence.

My 11yr old is on the Dex/T:Slim combo.
She was supposed to start the omnipod just has covid hit so it never happened 😪 she is back on the waiting list for it now all over again because she moved to adult care.
The whole problem this morning was because she stayed out until 5am 🙈 she needed a small amount of insulin but administered a huge amount by mistake, no food and too much alcohol. I am guessing this wouldn’t happen if she was on the omnipod?

I work in halls of residence and I’m so glad you were able to get hold of your daughters warden and actions was taken quickly. We find students sharing with their new room mates is helpful and people are extremely caring and kind in the main. I hope your daughter is back to her normal self tonight and is able to enjoy getting to know her flatmates. Halls are a great place for students to take that next step to independence.

I also hope that you and your husband get no more early morning emergencies!

Human error can and will still always happen but with a pump - any pump - it’ll probably be harder due to having to confirm the amount and it been a several step process (but I’d still have to be coherent and capable to ensure it was done correctly).

When the pump is raised again at clinic ask for a closed loop system to be considered for her. If she’s still wanting tubeless then explain you’re interested in the Omnipod Horizon and are prepared to wait for the UK release date if necessary. The Horizon and the T:Slim work with the Dexcom (that she already has).

In Leeds we have technology thrown at us but I realise it’s not like that in a lot of areas, especially after you’ve transitioned to adult care (which in Leeds they don’t do until they’re 19 - but they do a slow transfer over from 16 to get them used to it)

One of our DILs has all the bells and whistles tech for her diabetes and she has managed it from age 12 but she does have the occasional plip and our grandson age 5 knows now if mummy’s alarm goes off and daddy is not there he’s to press 1 on her phone for us or 999 on the house phone and say mummy’s diabetic monitor is saying she needs help and as daddy is not here you need to say our safe word he told them that or I can’t open the door
He’s done it once he did both Grampa and the paramedics were there at the same time
Was he up nor down nope

Oh goodness! As a parent to a 15yo T1 who's got all this to come, I totally understand how you feel. No matter when that alarm goes off, it sets off a ton of panic and emotion. My son has the omnipod (eros pods - old ones) and dexcom, and he's been DIY looping for quite a while now, so I have that small saving grace that the tech will help keep his levels in check.

Like you said, though... silver linings, and they all now know. I would think it'd be a little comfort to her, too. A small safety net, as it were.

Sounds like an absolutely terrifying wake up for you all. So hope she is ok now and thank goodness for technology and being able to contact the warden... Hope you got some rest last night...

Oh my word, reading that has just made me cry. What a clever and amazing little boy 💗
I have never given any thought to how having a parent or grandparent in Yorkshire T’s case could/will effect a young child. Its still scares us silly when she collapses (she goes pretty fast) after 12 years experience and we are adults.
