we go on the 25th Oct

so have been keeping an eye on this

gov.uk/foreign-travel-ad...ing-on-arrival

but this suggests we still need a test as a NHS cert isnt recognised

This is from the Portuguese website for the mainland. There are different requirements for the Islands.

RT-PCR Test (or similar NAAT test) - 72h before boarding, or
Rapid Antigen Test - 48h before boarding, or
a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate, or
a valid Vaccination or recovery certificate issued by a third country, under reciprocal conditions.Children under 12 do not need to present test. All passengers need to fill a Passenger Locator Card (individually) before departure to Portugal or on board at portugalcleanandsafe.pt/en/p...r-locator-card

Portugal require an EU vaccination certificate to get in and don’t recognise an NHS one. You require an LFT no later than 72 hours before your ARRIVAL or an antigen within 48 hours. I’ve highlighted arrival as I’ve seen people recently turned away at check-in as their their tests were within the times mentioned from departure rather than arrival. You also need to complete a Portuguese passenger locator form portugalcleanandsafe.pt/en/p...r-locator-card

These are the current requirements and may well change before your trip

We went to Portugal in august. Tests were required even if vaccinated. We did the antigen tests which we bought from living care. Ł25
Not sure when the rules for coming home change. We used the living care tests again and day 2 pcr with Randox

Just to confirm - Portugal do accept the NHS Covid pass - I have shared mine multiple times in the last month and no problem being accepted in both the hotel I stayed at and multiple restaurants.

Edited: Sorry I mis-read - yes you do need an antigen test within 2 days of arrival and they do check them at the airport. I meant that Portugal accept the NHS COVID pass when you are in the country - the current restrictions mean you need to show it if you are staying at a hotel and also visiting restaurants on a weekend if you want to sit indoors etc and for this the NHS COVID pass is accepted.

I agree! Hoping it changes soon. Portugal recently dropped quarantine for non-vaccinated arrivals so hoping tests will be next to go.

As Soraia says, notwithstanding the rules surrounding earring indoors at a weekend etc I’ve had no issues at all. Only once was I asked to produce vaccination proof (Chinese in Vilamoura) and I used the NHS pass there but they just waved us over to the table without any issues
