I found hotel prices to be very expensive in Manhatten, I would budget at least £150 a night, plus the daily "resort" fee Andi mentioned. Mind you they were almost a bargain compared to San Francisco

Another shout out for the Novotel Times Square, a lovely spacious room and in a fantastic position. The first time we stayed in New York we were in the Paramount just off Times Square, omg the room was beyond small it was utterly ridiculous, we paid top price as well ( for the location) it was a rookie mistake - be warned.. 😂😂

Yet another vote for the Novotel Times Square. The views are epic.

I’ve also stayed in the New Yorker (found the rooms very small) and somewhere else on 8th Avenue (sorry, can’t remember where now) and I think that anywhere can be noisy in Manhattan. I don’t remember the Novotel being particularly noisy, although it’s obviously quite busy as soon as you step outside.

We have stayed at The Wellington a couple of times. You can walk to Times Square but it is directly across the road from a subway station and also a Starbucks. The rooms are a great size and you are close to everything. We loved it!

Great location, step in from the street and go straight up the escalator, once in our room we never heard a peep from outside and our room was a good size.

As YT said there are groups of guys trying to give you a copy of their music cd and if you accept it they want money, definitely best to either ignore them or say no thanks and walk on, don’t stop to speak to them.
Thanks for the advice,we will certainly ignore them!

Last time we went we stayed at the then hotel metro (now the kixby I believe) in w35th street. We loved the hotel and the location. We also stayed in the comfort inn Manhattan in the same street which then became the Gregory. I’m really missing New York too and can’t wait for things to open so we can get there too

I'd be amazed if anyone on a 2nd or subsequent visit to New York wants to be close to Times Square, but I can understand why rookies aim for there.

The best Hoel I've stayed at, on multiple visits to New York, was The Parker. Really lovely rooms, a secret dirty burger joint hidden off the lobby, Times Square close (but not too close) and Central Park just up the road.

Oh, talking of Central Park, the view from the swimming pool up high aren't too bad either...
