Natsynoo's Perfect Panamian Adventure: DCL EBPC Oct 2018 - Day 11 Crossing the Panama Canal
Today was the big one, and our 5am alarm made us regret our crazy antics last night, lol. I took a shower, washed my hair, and left in some conditioner because it was feeling a bit dry (too much curling!).
IMG_1575 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr We were on deck for 5.45am and it was already so busy! We were due to go under the Bridge of Americas at 6am so everyone was up there armed with cameras to catch that moment. IMG_1487 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr 20181027_055541 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr 20181027_055355 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr We sat for a while on Deck 9 after this, before heading up to Deck 10 ready to go through the first set of locks at 7am. This took around 2 hours to go through the three segments. IMG_1495 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr I did admire the turfing skills IMG_1494 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr And we spotted a Caiman IMG_1493 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr We went for breakfast at 8.30am and sat at the stern of the ship to watch the final segment. It was quite surreal actually! IMG_1517 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1516 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1515 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1514 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1513 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1510 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1509 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1505 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1504 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr If you click on the below two images, it’ll take you through to Flickr to watch a video IMG_1503 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1502 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr Whilst on Decks 9 & 10, there were Cast Members wandering around offering drinks, snacks and refreshing towels, which was a lovely touch. IMG_1534 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr 20181027_083849 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr We went to Deck 3 at 8.50am as the Navigator advised that there would be a special character greeting on offer. They were right, and we were so happy we came down for it as there was not a long queue and is one of my favourite photos of the cruise. We saw a sign indicating that the passport stamping had started at the Port Adventures deck so we nipped down to our stateroom to get those. Not long after, there was a ship wide announcement and the line was crazy so we were glad we went when we did! IMG_1530 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr Our next stop was Deck 4 to wander and sit for a while. There were a few hours yet before we’d reach the next set of locks, so we sat and watched the rainforest go by. IMG_1529 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1528 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1526 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1524 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr 20181027_092418 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1533 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1536 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr We went to Guest Services next to buy a couple of stamps – one to mail a postcard back to ourselves at home from Panama, and the other to put in our scrapbook. They were only 50c each. We quickly wrote the postcard and handed it back in to Guest Services before the 3pm cut-off. We decided to go for a quick walk around Deck 10 before heading down to Trivia at 10.30am. We were one mark off of winning. IMG_1538 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr We then headed back up to Deck 10 for a drink and a wander. They had started selling Pina Coladas served in fresh pineapples which was a lovely touch. IMG_1531 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr At 11.30am, we returned to our spot on Deck 4 to sit until lunchtime. At 12.20pm, we went to lunch at Triton’s. I had the Pappardelle Bolognaise IMG_1540 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr Matt had the Burger 20181027_123426 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr I had the Cherry Pie for dessert IMG_1541 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr And Matt enjoyed a Banana Split 20181027_125052 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr The food was really good and the Servers were very attentive because it was so quiet! After lunch, we returned to Deck 4 as were close to the second set of locks and wanted to see them from a different perspective. It was also much quieter down here. IMG_1552 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1551 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1550 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr 20181027_141501 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr To watch this video, click through to Flickr and you can see it! IMG_1549 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1547 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1545 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1543 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr Two more videos – click through to watch! IMG_1544 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1542 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr After the first segment, we went to our stateroom on Deck 2 to watch from there And then finally, from the stern of Deck 10 It started to rain relatively heavily by this point, so I ran off to get some ponchos from the Custodial team, but by the time I got back to Matt, it had stopped – typical. IMG_1539 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr Having made it out of the second set of locks, we would next approach the new Bridge that would enable crossing from South to North America by car really easily. It was so crazy to think that we had been standing with North America on one side, and South America on the other. Here was the view of the two Canals merging
20181027_150053 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr This one shows the multi-tiers of the locks really nicely 20181027_145112 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr After we passed under the bridge and were Atlantic, we went down to Deck 9 for some drinks, an ice cream and some fresh pineapple. IMG_1574 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr We then went back down to Deck 4 at 4pm to sit for a while. I think I nodded off too. At 5pm, we headed back down to the stateroom to chill for a bit and to get ready for the evening. I didn’t feel my best tonight – I felt fat, and I think because I didn’t do my hair, but hey ho, girls always have one of those days. Showtime tonight was Nightmare Before Christmas ‘Sing & Scream’ which we decided to skip as we aren’t massive fans of the film, so we instead headed straight to TV Tunes Trivia in the Crown & Fin at 7.30pm. Our usual soft drinks cost $4.31. IMG_1579 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr On our way to dinner, we bumped into Goofy in his formal attire. IMG_1582 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr Mickey was busting some moves! IMG_1580 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr Dinner tonight was at Triton’s…my notes stopped by this point, so the rest is from memory I’m afraid… To start, I had the Cheese & Bacon Tart IMG_1583 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr We both had the Prime Rib IMG_1584 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr I think this was Crème Caramel, this would have been mine IMG_1586 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr This was some kind of Apple Tart for Matt 20181027_212013 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr I think we shared these Churros IMG_1585 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr I’m not sure what time we went to bed, but I don’t think it was late because of our early start. We loved our surprise that our Stateroom Host, Agnelo, had left us…so cute! IMG_1588 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr IMG_1589 by Natalie Pope, on Flickr Edited at 03:01 PM. |

Disney Cruise Line VIP!
|
That bridge had a big gap in it when we sailed through in April. The workman directed hoses on to the ship which was funny in a 'I'd kill you if you were closer' kind of way!
When we went through, we sat at the stern on the bump out bit as you could see all the way down the side without people getting in the way. It also rained heavily on our way from one lock to another. Normal thing then! Did you go to the talks on the locks? We did and it was amazing.

Thanks for reading and commenting!
Haha ooh eerie! It seems like it's come along well then! We watched some of Captain Kenneth's talks on the tv in our stateroom but we didn't actually go to the talks, it was all very interesting though! It was an experience I'll never forget! It's so interesting! I would definitely recommend! One of the wonders of the world! |
