Lovely, thank you for all the suggestions. I used to live in Ripon so visited Harrogate fairly regularly but as I said above, I haven’t been back for years. Am really looking forward to our visit. Fountains Abbey is a great place for a walk and will look at Harlow Carr. Not done the Turkish Baths, what is that actually like? And of course Betty’s is a must, but we love the Ivy and also Italian so I’ll look that one up too. Thanks again everyone!

The Turkish baths is a traditional style "bath house" with various hot rooms, relaxation beds and a plunge pool from memory. They also offer treatments. It's really really lovely, like stepping back in time.

Love North Yorkshire and Harrogate. We used to live in Topcliffe, near Thirsk and we would pop to Harrogate for a day trip. Fountains Abbey was our weekly walk and picnic when the kids were young, amongst all the deer. If you don’t mind a drive for an hour then Castle Howard is a canny half day.

They knew how to build back in the day

If Lucia's is anything like the York one it will be lovely (it is part of the same small chain).
