Studying in Spain?

My boy is considering studying for his degree in Spain.
He wants to do a chemistry related degree but one of his A levels is Spanish. The alternative is to do a Spanish/Chemistry degree here.

Just fact finding at the moment, but I can see that Spanish state universities are significantly lower fees than ours, so it might be a really good thing for him financially as well (or should I say for me!)

Anyone got any experience of this, positive or negative?

I live in France and it is quite common for french students to go to Spain - especially for degrees like medicine and vet science that are really hard to get into here. I have only heard positive things!

My son is at university in Spain, and yes the fees are significantly lower than the UK, his fees for the year are €800, however he started at uni before Brexit and has Spanish residency. We pay for his apartment, living costs, and private medical insurance costs around €900 pm. He has quite a few friends who are on the Erasmus scheme so come for between 6 months and a year. He absolutely loves uni in Spain and really happy he didn’t go to uni here. There are lots of things to factor in cost wise, flights home etc Some research may be required because of Brexit, good luck.

That is a good point re fees. EU citizens are charged international fees now in the UK (except for UK citizens in the UK under certain circumstances).

Hi, perhaps a course that allows an academic year abroad may be an idea, wish you and your son good luck. I know it was the best decision for my son to study in Spain. Not only academically but for life skills as he has to manage things himself especially during the pandemic, we have had some tough times during this but come through. He is in second year of 5 year degree and he is having time of his life.

My sister did on year of her degree in Spain was not as good as it should have been as all the English kids stuck together and were treated as lesser pupils by the teachers.
