Classicfm Hall of Fame 2022

Anyone else voting in this years hall of fame in classicfm ? I do every year and this year my choices I have submitted are ;

1. Farewell to Stromness by Peter Maxwell Davies

This very very poignant after my visit to Sanday, meeting Gull and Mr Gull who knew Max and what it all meant to my Mother

2. The Pearl Fishers Duet - Bizet

My parents both loved this and as such we had it played at both of their funerals as the last piece at the Crematorium - I have to find the music score for my Mothers for the organist to play so again poignant

2. Wilde - Debbie Wiseman

I vaguely know Debbie and admire her greatly and this piece in honour of Oscar Wilde always make me smile and think of her

What are your choices and if you haven’t voted have a go ?

My favourite are
Jupiter...from the planet suite by Holst, part of it has the hymn I vow to thee my country which we had at our wedding
Danse macabre...by Saint-saens it reminds me of the haunted mansion in Efteling, all the ghosts dancing around.
The overture from sleeping beauty by Tchaikovsky, both me and my daughter many years later , had ice skating programmes to this

Bach - Nr 3 in D. Such a joyful piece, I like the vibrancy and depth of the composition.

Holst - The Planets - it was always played as the intro to our assembly at school (a mining estate school, not a public school). Has stuck with me ever since, the Jupiter section was picked out as the melody for 'World in Union' for the Rugby World Cup. Perfect.

John Williams - Jurrasic Park - just seems to capture awe and wonder. Love this theme as you walk into that area in Universal Studios.

Great thread!

It's too hard to choose only 3 !

This time I've chosen

Edvard Greig - Peer Gynt suite 1 - I just love Hall of the Mountain King
Hans Zimmer - Gladiator - it's just wonderful !
Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre - one of the first pieces of classical music I studied.

I'm sure I've only changed 1 since my last vote actually 😄

Hmm.. I'm not well-educated in classical music, but I might vote for

Mendelssohn, Violin Concerto in E Minor

Jerome Moss, The Big Country, Main Theme
...Or John Williams, Flying Theme, E.T. (As above, Jurassic Park is a great choice, too )

Elgar, Nimrod

Nice thread, MF. It's taking me down a classical music rabbit hole!

As soon as I read "danse macarbre" I thought of Efteling before I read that it reminds you of the same - spooky!

My favourites are:

Glazunov: The Seasons, Op.67 XIV Petit Adagio. Just a beautiful piece of music.

Debussy: Suite Bergamasque III Clair De Lune. (Especially the Larry Adler harmonica version from the Music For Millions movie).

Holst: The Planets. Venus. Always pop this on if a bit of calm is needed.

Too many to choose from though!
