Mobile So tell me about Arizona….

I have just booked flights to Phoenix for the end of February. My DS is currently studying in LA and I haven’t seen him since the beginning of September.

As he is exploring LA a lot and is off to SFO at the end of the month to meet up with a friend we thought about somewhere different and came Up with Arizona. I have already booked one of the lodges at the Grand Canyon as that was an essential stopping point!

Other ideas are Page/Lake Powell for Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend and Monument Valley.

We both like the great outdoors. Any other ideas? I am only there 8 nights (all the leave I have and DS doesn’t want to miss too many classes (that week he only has 3 as Monday is a holiday in California! )) so time is fairly short but we are used to doing lots to make the best of the time we have!

Thank you!

We are going in December.
Have a look at Sedona. That is going to be a must do for us.

Sedona. Really beautiful. We stayed at the Hilton and it was lovely you can see the red rocks from everywhere even the car park. I’m trying to work out a holiday to go back.

Painted Dessert and Petrified Forest are musts for us.

We also love Monument Valley and Sedona.

If you want complete seclusion Canyon De Chelly, is rarely busy and with reach of Monument Valley

Montazuma Castle is worth a detour and laugh (the rangers will tell you how OLD it is... about half the age of our village church).

Thank you all.

I have booked hotels in Phoenix, GC, Page, Monument Valley and Sedona. We’ll be very busy 8 days but my son and I did 10 days in Argentina with 6 different hotels and 6 internal flights so I know we can do it🤣

All your points of interest are noted for further research! Thank you!

We did a road trip taking in many of the National Parks, we did Utah's Mighty Five - but we also did other places, and one was Monument Valley.
Just wow.
We stayed at 'The View Hotel' within the NP itself, and it isn't called the view for nothing!
I'd thoroughly recommend it. It's run by Native Americans (Navajo?) and it is simply beautiful, the balcony view is the best view we have ever had on any balcony!

See the photos on this link - that is the actual view from your balcony!
I have my own photos but I'd have to dig them out.
Watching the colours on 'The Mittens' rock formations as sun sets is priceless, then after dark the star gazing is AMAZING.

I you can get a reservation it is well worth it!

Few years ago we did a road trip starting Los Angeles, Arizona, Las Vegas, San Francisco and ultimate highlight was our stay at Maswik Lodge within Grand Canyon National Park.
You’re going to enjoy it.

We visited Horseshoe Bend on our way to Page...fantastic view.
We did a days rafting trip from Glen Canyon Dam taking us around Horseshoe Bend before taking in the Grand Canyon just before sunset. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to have a good look at lake Powell
