Ideas for Italy please

Hi all,

Now thinking of Italy for DH's 50th in April. We have 8-9 nights.

Any recommendations for where to stay? Should we stay in 2 or 3 different places to see more?

I love Italy, if you are hiring a car I would do a tour and do a couple of nights in each of these , Sorrento , Rome, Venice and lake garda. But you wont see as much as if you just do 2 places. Or you could maybe do Rome venice and lake garda as they are closer together, but then again florence is lovely, oh I cant pick for you, theres too much choice .have fun wherever you go

We did a week in Sorrento and went out every day, we visited Naples, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Heraculean, Amalfi and Possitano, Sorrento itself has enough to see for a whole day. We travelled round by train. Very cheap, clean and reliable service. You could combine 5 days here with a couple in Rome and travel there by train.

We love Italy! It’s a lovely holiday destination. We’ve been to lake Garda & Verona which are beauts! So much to do. We are going to Venice in early March for our 20th wedding anniversary & we can’t wait!

We’re going to Sorrento in June. I’ve never been to Italy before and Sorrento looks great for a short stay as it’s near to Pompeii and other historical sites that we want to see, plus the views around the area look amazing.

We love Milan and you can take the train to Lake Como from there. From Lake Como you can visit loads of other places like Bellagio which is stunning!

Sorrento is spectacular and you can then visit Amalfi, Positano, or Capri. Just beautiful!

I would say Rome and then the frecciarossa highspeed train to Naples (1 hour 12), followed by the rickety circumvensuvius train to Sorrento, 3 days Rome 6 days Sorrento. We have dual centred this vacation twice!

Rome (all walkable from Hotel Hibernian, which was really, really nice),
Coliseum
Palatine Hill
Trevi Fountain
Forum
Pantheon
Hadrians Mausoleum
Vatican
Castello di Angelo
Circus Maximus
Popole square.

Sorrento all on Circumvesuvius

Pompeii
Herculaneum(even better)
Vesuvius
Napoli archeological museum.

In town.
Day out on a self drive rib taking in
Positano
Capri
Amalfi

Sorrento itself is absolutely stunning!

You won’t even need a car and could fly into Rome and out of Naples.. or in and out of Rome with a return train journey.. or..

We stayed at Hotel Solara in July 2019- lovely hotel, some days we were the only ones by the pool! Free shuttle bus into Sorrento and some lovely restaurants across the road including one where we literally had a table on the small beach.
