Flight prices may stop us going this year :)

We are due to fly 31st July to 23rd August and shocked at the prices from Manchester...

We are seeing nearly £1k each for indirect!

there is 5 of us so this may be stopping us going this year.

Anyone any cheap prices or suggestions

Yes - prices are a bit crazy!

We went BA Fly drive in Dec 2019 for 2 weeks - £1200 in total for 2 for flights and car hire.

This Oct we are going to see our grandson then down to they keys - so flying into Chicago and then home from Miami... flights alone are £1400, 3 nights car hire in Chicago is £200 and £550 for 10 nights from miami.

Accommodation in the Keys is also eye wateringly expensive - far more than we had budgeted for. We could pre-covid have got 2x 2week foreign holidays (5*) for what this is going to cost us...

Look to LHR.

A couple of nights in Boston, NY, D.C. or Philly on the way in?

If you look at a BA multi city either with or without counting the internal leg as part of it, you will find that the return leg from MCO or MIA will be much cheaper.

For low stress, I recommend Boston as the Airport is so very close to downtown ($10 or so in a Yellow cab).
To get a feel for Boston (if you have never visited) have a look at the trip report in my signature. A fabulous, prosperous city with loads to do.

Surely flight costs are only going to be a small part of a 24 night stay in Orlando

Even pre-covid you would be looking £800 direct in School holidays from Manchester.

As for in-direct. Limited flights this year from Manchester will push flights up

We usually go for 3+ weeks. This year we are going for 18 nights. The costs have risen so we’ve changed our holiday to fit our budget. Next year we will drop Disney as heartbreaking as it is. Unfortunately with the cost of everything rising we are having to alter our travel plans as well 😞 Personally I’d look at reducing your stay and absorbing the flight cost instead. As someone else said in Xmas 2019 we paid £1950 for flights for 4, 23 days car hire and 2 nights at Margaritaville in Hollywood Beach. This May we’ve paid £2500 for 1 night in LGW, flights to MCO and 5 nights cabana bay.

Could you consider Heathrow? There's indirect for under £700 (you would need to factor in adding luggage though). Manchester is always our preferred, but if it's the difference between going or not, I'll happily head to Heathrow.

We booked ba from Manchester ended up on aerLingus £750 pp.
Gutted as that’s my usual premium standard prices.
However looking at the comments on here it appears not too bad for mid July.
Sadly we are in a midst of being ripped off from everything possible.
Post covid is going to be very very expensive for many more years.

I’d recommend travelling to London if you can. Also if you drive have a play about on BA custom trip by arriving at Tampa/MCO/Miami and leaving at another. You can also just select ‘London’ rather than just LHR or LGW and arrive and depart at different airports there if the saving is good enough. Dh has dropped us off at our departure hotel at LGW before now and driven to park the car at LHR for our return.
Only you know what inconveniences (if any) you are prepared to put up with to save some money.

Personally, I’d try to fly from London as I’m sure you could save money that way. We always fly from a London airport as we live in the far south west and the only other option would be Bristol which is always very expensive. Personally, I love the bigger London airports too. We are flying in and out of Miami this year and have economy on the way and premium economy on the way back and we have a price of £2463 for 2 adults and a teen, wholly within school holidays with BA. I wasn’t thrilled with the price, as we have paid less than this with a car included, but this year there doesn’t seem to be much wriggle room.
