Staysure cruise cover?
I have a quote from Staysure for annual travel insurance but I wondered if anyone had experience of their cruise cover? (We already have annual travel insurance free with our home insurance, but it doesn’t cover covid-related issues, so we needed something in addition, in case of quarantining / self-isolating etc).
Do we need the additional Cruise Plus cover? Or is the basic cruise cover included in the comprehensive family annual policy sufficient? The cruise cover information page says these are the benefits included with comprehensive cover (costing £130 for the four of us): Medical emergencies and repatriation - Unlimited Cancellation - Up to £5,000 Cutting your holiday short - Up to £5,000 Baggage claims - Up to £2,500 Cash lost or stolen - Up to £500 Personal liability - Up to £2 million Legal protection cover - Up to £25,000 End Supplier Failure - £3,000 Excess - £65 With Cruise Plus cover (£200 extra), we would also get: Cover for Missed Port Departure up to £1,500 Cabin confinement cover up to £1,000 Cover for Itinerary Changes up to £500 Cover for unused excursions up to £500 Cover for Cruise interruption up to £750

That’s a lot extra for the cruise plus insurance. I’m not sure these extras are as important as the medical aspect. I would probably phone to confirm especially if one of the uk cruises. I’ve also looked at holiday extras which P and O recommend and Cover for you to compare. I don’t know what to do. We also have insurance though with bank account but don’t think that covers all it needs to. It’s a nightmare!

I know, I wish it wasn’t so complicated! It’s for a DCL cruise next Easter - still fully refundable for now, so I haven’t bothered with extra insurance yet, but I’m hoping to book our flights next month and I need insurance sorted by then.
I just don’t know how much the extra cover is needed - most of it sounds unnecessary, but missed port departure would be my biggest worry. We’re planning to fly in 2 or 3 days early so we don’t have to worry about flight delays, but I suppose something could still happen to stop us getting from the hotel to the port on the day. Staysure have just sent a 15% off code, but it’s still SO expensive - I was very happy with the £100 for 15 months of worldwide annual insurance including basic cruise cover, but adding on twice that just for missed port departure on a five day cruise seems mad!

My thoughts exactly. We’ve done 45 cruises and never taken out additional cover - we’ve had situations where we could have made a claim eg cruise interruption, itinerary changes, etc but on balance the amount we could have claimed would have been significantly less than the additional premiums over the years. The worst was a cruise around Japan that was wrecked by two typhoons and we basically had 8 sea days getting away from the storm. We were fully refunded by the cruise line and they gave us obc and wine with dinner. The odd missed port because of bad weather, industrial action etc is disappointing but is quite rare, other than Japan, we’ve only missed four ports.

Thanks, that’s pretty much what we were thinking when we discussed it last night.
We’ve got the scarily-big potential expenses covered (ie medical / repatriation) and the extra would just mean some smaller amounts of money back that we can afford to gamble on losing. I think we’ll stick with the basic cruise cover and accept the bad luck if any of the holiday is missed.

I've never added the cruise plus with them as as other's have said missing a port is very rare and usually I have not felt the need to claim for it even when its happened as all I've lost is a few pounds for a tour I might have booked. I guess it also depends on what you are doing i.e. if this is for a four night staycation then a lot of the extra cover wont be applicable apart from maybe the confinement side.
