Cheaper to Fly From Heathrow or Frankfurt?
Moring to the Collective minds here
I am looking to go to Tokyo next year (between March and May – TBC) and have enough Virgin points to nab a First class return seat with ANA, and nearly enough to get a Business class return seat also. I can buy the necessary Virgin points for a Business seat for about £580 currently. We had planned to search for ANA reward seats from Frankfurt as the taxes etc would be cheaper that Heathrow, plus we live in Scotland and could fly from Glasgow or Edinburgh to Frankfurt via Lufthansa, and it was a different airport and a bit of an adventure I suppose. Now the dates we are looking for reward seats for next March are soon to be released and by chance I went to the ANA site and did dummy cash bookings for a First class trip from Heathrow to Haneda in January, and another for same dates from Frankfurt and there was a big difference between the basic ticket price between the two, but not as big a difference in taxes and fees. Would the taxes / fees be similar for a reward flights? There appears to be about £130 difference in the taxes and fees between the 2 airports, I had it in mind it might be more than that for some reason, but that would be used up by getting to Frankfurt I think anyway, and I can get to London for free by train, so all in all be less trouble getting ot London and should look from there as a primary place for the reward flights, and Frankfurt as the second I think. They should be the same for points and cash bookings.
