Boston and surrounding area
Looking into doing a stopover in Boston for a few days before heading down to Orlando
What would everyone recommend doing and where’s good to stay? Quite fancy seeing Cape cod and hiring bikes, what’s the best way to get there? Is Washington doable or too far for a day? Any tips appreciated

Lovely area and so much to see and do.
We checked out Concord which is famous in US history as the place where the first shot was fired in the American Revolutionary War against the British. Washington would be too much for a day, and requires a stop over...perhaps next time? Disney332 Edit: we did a Whale watching boat tour...amazing.

Ooh love Boston! We went there for new year a couple of years ago.
Defo recommend the trolley tour, ticket is a hop on hop off for 24/48 hrs, and includes a visit to the old statehouse. Takes you out to sox stadium too. Also a boat trip from the harbour is good. What time of year you going coz we went ice skating on frog pond. We visited USS constitution which is the oldest working war ship in the world defo worth checking out. Also a trip to Harvard, we had a car but think many buses go theretoo. We drove to New Hampshire and maine and down to Providence We also drove to New York for a night, was about 4hrs each way. Depends how long you have in Boston tho.

We stayed in Boston for a few days then flew over to San Francisco for a week then back to Boston and drove down to Cape Cod for another few days. The things we did when we were much younger in or 60s
Did the usual stuff in Boston and even caught the subway under the river to Cambridge and walked round Harvard campus. Although we took duck and trolley tours in Boston it's a very walkable city. We were in Cape Cod for July 4th and stood outside our hotel in Sandwich waving an Old Glory that the locals had given us. Mick

We stayed in Back Bay and enjoyed walking the Freedom Trail following the red line on the pavement when we were there a few years ago. There’s Wrentham if you need a shopping outlet fix...

I lived in Boston for 2 years, we lived on Beacon Hill, we didnt have a car and had no problems. The public transport system, his and underground (called the T) is excellent and unlike most US cities it's a great walking city.
Cape cod is charming but very busy in the summer and fall. A days car drive will get you to where ever you choose as your base. We actually preferred travelling up to Maine, themountain areas are fantastic for moose spotting and hiking and the small towns are beautiful, Boothbay Harbor and Bar Harbor are great. If you like lobster it's the place to go. Go hiking or biking in Acadia, its magical. |
