New to dvc multiple contracts

After seeing recent dvc posts I’ve spent all weekend reading into it and calculating what i could make work 🙈. As a total novice who has not yet grasped everything was wondering -

if I started low with a small contract allowing a ten night studio stay every 3 years. Then bought another small contract when finances allowed would the points then be pooled to allow me to book 1 bed accommodation or a longer stay or would I have to make a separate booking for each contract?

I’m looking at resale points if that makes a difference?

Sensible strategy to start small and build up.

Yes you can pool all points you own. Best bet (for simplicity) is to buy all the same use year (the name is confusing it should be called use month really as it’s the month all points come onto the contract during the year) for any add on. If you stick to the same use year for future contracts as your first one, the process is seamless as it pulls the points when you book from all your contracts and they sit under one membership number. If you buy a different use year later, they sit under a new membership number. This means you have to book so many nights with one, then another, or transfer points from one to another. So I’d recommend personally always buying an add on with the same use year.

Many DVC owners ‘add on’ over the years. I initially intended to just buy one contract but ended up with 4, although there’s some on here who own many more points than I do.

It’s always better to build up rather than buying too many and selling.

OP. As per the above post. We hold 7 Contracts with the same use year under one Membership Number and a Resale Contract with a different use year under another Number.

It isn't a hassle to me at all but to be honest it would make my admin easier if they were all together and then I wouldn't have to worry about different Banking deadlines etc.
But price ruled and that resale one was too good to miss!

We have 3 contracts at 3 different resorts. The first two are the same use year at different resorts but under the same membership number. The points can be combined at the 7 month window but not before.

The third has a different use year and different resort but under a separate membership number so cannot be combined with the others at any stage.

Ideally I would have had all contracts with the same use year but this contract was too good to pass up at exactly the right price and number of points and we had already lost a couple of contracts due to ROFR. It does make admin slightly more complicated but I don't regret buying it.

Donna as they say do the "Maths", the smaller contracts cost more as they are more in demand & I would think there isn't as much "haggle" room as the seller knows that it will sell. If you aren't desperate for the points then consider buying what's known as a "stripped" contract, basically the current owner has used all the available points but the upside to this: no annual dues, lower price & less likely to be ROFR'ed as Disney generally want points that are available straight away.
Personally I would always go for enough points for my needs, if you only plan 10 nights every 3 fine but if you are planning a 2 week holiday every 3 then I would buy enough for that_ I'd say that it's hard enough to pay Annual Dues, save for flights, passes, food & spending money without adding an additional 4 night Hotel stay IYKWIM- especially if you are also trying to save for that add-on
