Not Central London but there are artifacts at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Cheapest way to get there is by the DLR (using an Oystercard or a Travelcard) to Greenwich Maritime/Cutty Sark. For a bit more catch one of the River Clippers to Greenwich - which is a more scenic way of travelling.
London Eye prices are here. If there are 2 or more of you consider booking (you need to pre-book) Vertigo, the Champagne Bar on the 42nd floor of Tower 42 (the old NatWest Tower). Higher than the Eye so better views. No fee for entrance. Spend what you would have on the Eye on a bottle of Champagne instead.

Tate moder is good but be prepared for something a bit weird. There is usually a large ehibition in the main (Turbine) hall that is worth seeing (not been reacently). It is big take your time, rember you don't have to do it all. It is worth concidering a guide of some kind, may be an hire an audio one, as some of the art needs a good explaination. Portobello market is quite good but go to some places near by as well.

Peckham!
Hi - I have to take DS15 to a charity event (he's in the junior 8 ball England Squad (proud mum!)) at JFKs Pool Club in Peckham. I do not drive, it is just me and him. Can anyone recommend me a nice cheap hotel that is easy to travel from St Pancreas to there, and from there to Peckham please?
I will be coming down Sat July 25th and staying 1 or 2 nights TIA Caz |

Caz, I come from Peckham (leave it owt Rodney etc). How cheap is cheap?
And what is junior 8 ball? Is it pool? Trying to work out which part of Peckham you need to get to to make things easier for you. Do you have any further details? Edit: Ignore the second para - I just re-read your post.

Hi Hal - did you go to Oz a few years back?
Brilliant to find a dibber from Peckham! I guess by cheap I mean reasonable. Have never stayed in London before, as long as the place is clean and within a short taxi ride to JFKs I will be happy! He has another event in Blackpool (4 days) then 1 in Barnsley (2 days) all before we head off in August! Trying to save the dollars lol. Thanks Caz |

kinda - have visas but haven't gone.
moving swiftly on... Peckham isn't a holiday destination, so there's no hotels. The pool centre is 10 mins max walk from Peckham Rye station. You should therefore look to stay in the London Bridge area. There are regular trains from London Bridge to Peckham Rye. Journey time 9 mins (yes NINE mins). Check out tfl.gov.uk for your dates and times, obviously there will be fewer services at weekends. So, around London Bridge you can check out all the major hotel sites for deals. The Tower Bridge Hilton is excellent, but it will depend on getting a deal. I think £139.50 per night is the cheapest I have found just trawling (see here). Don't forget that you are saving on transport (taxi) costs. Looking at Expedia the Southwark Rose Hotel or the London Bridge Hotel are both under £100 per night. Less convenient Travelodges are £80-£85 per night for comparison. You can get to London Bridge very easily on the underground (Northern Line - City Branch) from St Pancras. I hope this helps. P.S. You are right to be proud.

Hal, you are a star - I could not get my head around what areas I should be looking at in respect of the transport system.
Thank You Caz |
