Dollar Car Hire-good or bad?

We always used Dollar until a couple of years ago, when we got a car with warning lights for defective tyres which I had to pump up every few days, also no water in the screen wash and their customer care was zero.
I now use Alamo and have had two lovely cars, my sister in law came out this year at the same time and had to take her Dollar 4x4 back, it was generally grubby as well as no hand brake pedal - just a spike, their response was" don't use the pedal "

NEVER again.

2 years ago there was a big wait to return cars, ended up returning it about 10 mins late due to the ques. A week later Dollar charged us for an extra day at full price. lots of hassle to resolve this and in the end we got the money back.

Last year we arrived at Miami airport and were stood around in a hot airport underground carpark for 2.5 hours waiting for our SUV that we had booked (along with 50-60+ other people). Were given an old battered standard size car and told we could swap it when we get to the Keys, which turned out to be a lie as there was no Dollar location at the Keys, they basically told people anything to get rid of them as people were getting very angry. Getting our money back for the downgrade was a lot of hassle.

Quite a few good reviews about Alamo, but not much info re Dollar. Anyone had any experience good or bad?

We have always had fine service when we have used Dollar.
TBH, they ate all hit or miss - you can have bad luck with any of them.
