we stick ours in airplane mode, I think you can accept text messages without extra charge but we use facebook messenger when away.

Turn off roaming on your phone , when you land turn on your phone and you will get a notification you are using an American network that is contracted to your UK one.
This way you can still call or text but there are charges. Leave your Wi-Fi on and you can connect to Wi-Fi spots in shops ,parks and restaurants Rob |

Turn data roaming off in your settings, airplane mode on and WiFi on and your set to go. Use WhatsApp or FB Messenger to keep in contact with family. The WiFi in the parks and resorts is fantastic (and free) xx

O2 are pretty bad for roaming in the USA. Unless you pay for one of their roaming bundles (about a fiver a day) expect to pay
35p to send a text Nothing to receive one £1.50 a minute to make a call £1.00 a minute for calls you receive (including voice mail) Your first born child per MB of data used (I can't remember the exact cost but it's so stupidly high you wouldn't want to pay it) Unless you are getting a roaming bundle I can't really see why you would want to take it (except for whatsapp and Wi-Fi) |

I always just put mobile on airplane mode and just hook up to wifi wherever I am. Plenty of wifi spots in Orlando so it's never been an issue.

I’m on EE, one one of their “Max” plans.
It doesn’t cost a lot, £12 for unlimited texts, mins and 15GB of data, and I can use all of my allowances in the EU (as per all the other providers), but EE also extend it to “plus 5”, which includes USA, Canada, Australia and a couple of others. Worth a look if you’re out of contract and can flip onto an new SIM only deal. |

I’m going to use a 3 feel at home as I am on O2. Alternative is £5 per day to stay with o2 on their ‘bundle’
Tbh- most of the time, I use WiFi but like to have the option therefore £5 per day is not great value👍
