Travellers cheques onsite
Hi
Planning on getting travellers cheques but I have a few questions.. We are staying onsite at a Disney hotel, would be be able to change them anywhere at the hotel for $? We have DDP so don't need them for food but I am assuming most of the shops in Disney will take them? Does anyone know if John Lewis travellers cheques are the right ones to buy? Thanks

The Easiest thing to do personally is use the magic bands to charge back to your room when you are in disney. This way you dont need to carry money or TC around with you. You can then pay off the balance every few days or week etc.
Used them in 2015 with out any problems but only at the main reception. Did not take them out with us as we just charged to the room. Cant remember where we got them from but I did not know there was a difference!

Ooooh that's a very good idea grinner82 I didn't even think about that! Thank you for that suggestion!
With regards charging to the room do we get charged anything extra for doing that? And can we charge things like tips to our room also? We have a credit card linked to our magic band but if I charged it to the room it wouldn't automatically go on the credit card as we don't want to use it in that way?

we take tc's and go to reception each morning with a few to pay off anything we have charged to the room and to exchange some straight into $$ so we have cash for malls, universal etc
no extra charge for charging to your room and yes tips can be charged too

We use TC instead of withdrawing cash while in wdw and unless they have changed the rules since last August you can cash $200 per room per day at your disney resort reception. We like to just pay cash sometimes rather than put everything on the band, and of course if you are ever off site your band is no help. As grinner82 says you can also use them to pay off anything you have charged to your band every few days too.

I found using travellers cheques really easy to do at WDW. We had magicbands and charged our meals/souvenirs etc to our room then I went to reception every day or 2 with my travellers cheques, got our bill up to that day, and paid the bill with travellers cheques. You can cash up to $200 a day at reception in addition to paying your bill with your TCs and getting the change in dollars.
I ordered my dollar TCs from the Post Office online, so mine were American Express cheques. |
