Ladies/girls

We have booked discovery cove for the 11th and I'm worried that my dd may be due her period at the same time, can she still do the swim if she's on, she won't use tampons(too young). Hopefully she can or she'll be so upset. Thanks.

I know it's not something everyone would consider but I know you can get something prescribed to postpone the cycle if needed? I haven't had it yet myself but is something I need to look at this year.

When we went we were given wetsuits to wear, they were full length. That was a good 15 years ago maybe so she maybe ok wearing one of these over here bathing suit.

I don't think you can be too young. Can't you just get a small pack of the minis (which are only about 1cm across) and try them before you go and if necessary she can just wear one for the day of the swim if the worst comes to the worst.

We had this exact problem with DD when we went in August 2006 (hey, just realised, it's exactly 10 years since we did an August trip and we're going again in 3 weeks).

Anyway, DD wasn't due on but flying mucks up your body clock and she came on early. She didn't know about the swim before we went so I wasn't able to prepare her, but we tried a couple of different brands in the US, neither of which we liked. It's extremely difficult trying to teach a 12-year-old how to insert a tampon through a toilet cubicle door in a public toilet! And they're so expensive in the US, too. The brand 'ob' is the nearest to the Lilletts I used to buy over here.

I don't know how young your DD is, but she's definitely too young to be put on the pill just to make sure she doesn't come on during your holiday!

Putting her on a pill for the hols isn't something I wanted to do. If you wear a wet suit then it would be OK for her to wear a sanitary towel with her swim bottoms, what a nuisance periods are! Could someone let me know if we wear wet suits.

Yes you wear wet suits, but a towel would get soaking wet still. I really would try the Lilets tampon route, they have a range designed for teenagers.

I wore a sleeveless vest! There were wetsuits available, but there's no guarantee they'll have the right size anyway.

If your daughter is under 12 they can't prescribe her anything on prescription as its a form of the pill we had the same problem in May with my daughter who is 11.
