Changing airport, Heathrow to Gatwick
Hi
I am looking at flight options for 22nd December. Current best option is ba flight from Man to Lhr then lgw to mco. There is 3 hrs 55mins between lhr arrival and lgw departure. Has anyone any experience of this? How long does it take to get out of terminal 5 at lhr? Will it be doable? Or should I look at something else? Thanks B |

4hrs between the two airports should be more than enough - as long as there is not fog in Manchester / London.
Most expensive transfer will be a black cab - look into the like of Uber for a cheaper option. There is also, I believe, a regular coach service between the two airports. You could of course get the HEX (not cheap) to Paddington, then the tube to Victoria & then the Gatwick Express - you'd probably make the transfer in time this way no problem (Uber would probably be cheaper & certainly quicker though). |

You're better off getting a cross country train from Manchester to Gatwick (via Reading if necessary) the whole journey will be shorter than the transfer time

We did this, but in the reverse direction (Gatwick to Heathrow). I prebooked a private transfer who collected us outside arrivals and dropped us off at T5. Journey took just under an hr and from memory cost about £60
I won't pretend that every possible delay didn't run through my mind ahead of it - but on the day it all ran really smoothly |

I personally wouldn't risk it. The days just before Christmas are the busiest for airports and roads. The M25 can be a nightmare at the best of times. I assume you have to collect cases and take them with you to LGW too?

I think you need to break this down for each eventuality.
1) Possible delayed Manchester Flight. 2) Waiting for your luggage at T5 (anything between 15 - 45 mins) 3) M25 between the 2 airports (good day=50 minutes, bad day=2 hours) 4) Arrival at LGW a minimum of 60 minutes before the flight. This is the time check in closes for international flights although I would not recommend leaving it this late. Also remember the airport will be busy so you need to allow enough time for security and getting to the gate. -Steve

I'd get a train to Gatwick from Manchester.
Manchester to London, then Gatwick express into Gatwick, probably a similar price and less hassle. I wouldnt want to think of the traffic between the 2 airports. |

We do this every year as live in Newcastle. You need minimum 3 hours between flights, takes about 30 mins to get your luggage and then we do private transfer between. We've used a couple of company's and now use Prestige Airport Cars or BA transfers I think they're called. Cost about £50 one way. Only once we had to rush on the way back due to an accident but the driver used his Sat Nav and got us there in time.
Hope this helps
