I think one of the problem is that a lot of Hermes deliveries are by Couriers who use their own cars and obviously bigger boxes take more space which means less deliveries per "run". My DH had this problem with a delivery of Dyson parts and it was delayed by a few days as had to be brought by one of the delivery drivers with a van.
In your case though given all the issues you have had DIsney should have used an alternative Courier and Hermes should not agree to deliver items unless they know one of the couriers in the area has a large enough boot or a van. Surely the box cannot be so big that it won't fit in a car and seems crazy that you are going round in circles. Is their depot anywhere near where you stay or anyway you or your DH could pick up the parcel and remove it from whatever extreme packaging it has to ensure your little girl gets it for her birthday. I would however continue to complain to DIsney and even resort to Social Media as they should know the maximum sizing that Hermes can deliver and use an alternative.
