Thomas cook booking seats

Okay so having never flown TC before and only virgin I'm wondering if like Virgin you can pre book your seats a couple of days before you go for free? There's only 3 of us so I think we have a good chance of getting sat together but don't want to pay ☹️ If there's no window of opportunity for free booking of seats we will probably pay

We've flown Thomas Cook a few times and I'm sure there isn't a free window of opportunity.

On line check in opens 24 hours prior to departure and will allocate your seats free of charge. Doesn't guarantee they will be together though - all depends on how many other people have pre-booked their seats but I would say you have a good chance of them being together.
