She had to give up in the end referring to the X-ray telling me an unruptured wisdom tooth is in the way of the roots
Shouldn't she have noticed this before she started Rob |

Did she give you painkillers to take? You could try A&E but to be honest I'm not sure they will take it out as emergency? You could try and get through tonight and ring another dentist for a second opinion tomorrow? Not sure if they can refer privately to speed up the process but I'm guessing everything is available at a price ☹.

It sounds like you need an oral surgeon not just another dentist. I think you need to ring the office back and ask for further advice. If you are willing to pay privately tell them that. They should at least be able to give you further information about who they are referring you to. They certainly shouldn't just expect you to wait 6 weeks in pain. There must be a system for emergency referrals.

Ring 111 as they can get you in contact with an emergency dentist. I had to do this when I couldn’t get a referral but was in too much pain to eat or even breath through my mouth really. The emergency dentist then referred me to an emergency surgeon, all in all took about 48 hours to get sorted.

Oh god how awful!
Why didn’t she see the wisdom tooth problem from the X-ray before even starting ! I’d be seeing if they can get you an emergency referral. Even not going away you can’t have that for 6 weeks! Also check your travel insurance will cover any problems this could cause while away. Ours only covers emergency dental pain care to cover us until we get home. It wouldn’t cover an extraction if needed while away. |

I must say it but the Dentist sounds incompetent in the extreme.
Didn't X Ray beforehand, failed at the task and just sends the Patient away without a care. Disgraceful treatment. I wouldn't be setting foot inside that practice again and would be seeking Private treatment now and sending the Dentist in question the bill. Now we all know unforseen complications can arise and may mean the issue has to be pushed up to a Specialist. But to abandon somebody like this is a disgrace. By the way my Dentist who is very good at extractions will not extract bottom wisdom teeth or the ones next to them if the roots are entwined. Straight to the Dental Hospital as to get it wrong means permanent facial nerve damage.

Do you have an emergency dentist walk in centre near you? I recently had a tooth extraction so I know how hideous it can be - on the NHS I actually had to wait 12 weeks for mine (luckily I wasn't in too much pain). I didn't think dentist did extractions anymore, I thought all were referred to a hospital but maybe that's just in my area.
Not to make things worse but I also got dry socket after mine which is incredibly painful and no way I could have travelled (this lasted about 5 days) so I would do whatever you can to get it sorted asap.

I had an extraction yesterday which took about 20 seconds from clamp in to tooth out. I know that's not any help, sorry. It was private and cost me £60 plus two xrays at £8 each.
I'd gone in on an emergency appointment with extreme toothache last Monday and decided to have it extracted on Wednesday. At the Wednesday appointment my dentist said he'd rather try and save it, so I said ok and he took the nasties out and gave me a temporary filling. Over the weekend it hurt so I went back in on another emergency appointment, he apologised for it not working and we agreed he'd take the tooth out. He did tell me about what might go wrong, but I was surprised how quick it was. I have massive sympathy for what you're going through even if you weren't going on holiday next week. |

So if you can get through the night - take your own pain killers and try to go to sleep if you can. In the morning call 111 if you can, or go to A7E - they will refer you for immediate extraction or at least give you some strong pain killers. If you go down the private route, which I did - any private dentist will have a look and can advise you. they will see you quickly (of course they will charge), mine referred me immediately to an NHS place that then did the extraction and I only had to pay the private person for the first appointment and not the extraction.

I would ring 111 and they will direct you to the best place, our local a&e doesn't have a dentist within it.
