I would advise going to A&E. They will be able to see how bad, or OK, it is, prescribe appropriate pain relief, and make an urgent referral for follow up. Also, if you decide to complain, you have independent information on how it was immediately post-treatment.
Take a pen and paper with you if its hard to speak and explain.
I hope that it is all sorted soon

I think if you dial 111 there is an option for dentistry. I'd do it now, pain never gets better in the night.
Good luck.

Thank you everyone.
My lovely other half was on the phone for me for a good hour sorting this out and has got me a referral at a private specialist but we have to wait until the morning to find out when the appointment will be. I really need it to be tomorrow or Wednesday at the very latest to have a chance of feeling better before I go on my trip.
It’s been one thing after another this year
It’s still bleeding a bit at the moment so keeping an eye on it. Will go to A&E if I need to. Hoping the specialist can sedate me as I’m not looking forward to sitting in that chair again.

At the Wednesday appointment my dentist said he'd rather try and save it, so I said ok and he took the nasties out and gave me a temporary filling. Over the weekend it hurt so I went back in on another emergency appointment, he apologised for it not working and we agreed he'd take the tooth out.
He did tell me about what might go wrong, but I was surprised how quick it was. I have massive sympathy for what you're going through even if you weren't going on holiday next week.
Thank you. I’m glad to hear yours went well, hope it heals quickly.
I genuinely believed mine would be exactly the same, I was told it was a 10 min procedure.

Sounds like your hubby is a keeper - I hope you get an appointment ASAP and it’s a better experience for you.

If it turns out your NHS dentist has cocked it up, don’t be frightened to go after them for the cost of the remedial treatment, either yourself or via a solicitor. I took a claim against my NHS dentist in 2014, successfully, as I didn’t see why I should foot the £1200 bill to fix his mistakes.

I don’t think it fair to say the dentist is incompetent. I’m sure if the tooth could be saved that would have been an option. Some teeth are just harder to take out than others. An X-ray isn’t always needed to identify a tooth that needs extracted until it does proves more difficult. If she couldn’t get it out doesn’t make her a bad dentist especially if you say the wisdom tooth was in the way. Everyone is different and some people it can be more difficult to take teeth out than others

Sounds horrific, I hope you manage to get it sorted tomorrow. Nurofen plus (from a pharmacy) is good for dental pain alternated with paracetamol.

The last tooth I had out the dentist couldn’t get it out an hour and 15 mins later she called another dentist in to come and help and fortunately succeeded, I can’t imagine being sent home and being told to wait 6 weeks. What an awful experience.
