We had PE booked with miles to Seattle. I religiously checked Upper availability every day, but it never manifested. However, on check in, hey presto... Upper available. It took miles and a small amount of cash each but OMG what a wonderful experience!

I have not flown UC since about 1997 I dint really like Virgin but I have to say I don’t put UC on par with Business with United (which I have traveled a lot) or quantas and American which I have flown once it may be the age but it just was not there.
On the other hand I think Virgin PE is better than BA |

Sorry if I'm being particularly dense here, but I'm new to the possibility of upgrading too
How do you "check to see what an upgrade would be"? We've booked direct with VA using miles - EC out and PE back. When I log in to 'my booking' on the VA site, I just get a option to bid for an upgrade. When I go to the bid screen, the EC outbound shows 'not eligible for upgrade', with just the PE inbound bid option active. |

As you have booked with Miles you wont ever see an upgrade price as your ticket is not eligible for that. So, go onto your date(s) of travel and search a 1 way Miles flight in the class you want. That will show you if its available or not.
If not then keep checking. If it is then ring up and use more Miles plus the extra bit of tax to get upgraded.

I’d love to be able to upgrade one of my PE flights to/from Boston this Oct but when I look against upgrade there’s “-“
Our outbound was EC miles & used Amex voucher to upgrade - am I right in thinking that flight isn’t upgradeable? The return flight also booked with miles. I can’t see an option to upgrade. Should I be checking the cost of a one way ticket? I would need to pay cash to upgrade. Idiots guide for me needed please! |

Hi, not sure about the Amex one but the return one should be ok. You have to do a dummy booking to search for availability in UC on your dates then phone them up. I had booked return PE flights for two using miles + tax then watched until UC tix were released and phoned up immediately. All sorted on the phone with more miles and a little more in tax. I’ve got return flights in upper - not bothered about outbound as we have seats 19 a and c so off the plane first
