They tried this on with me and my friend in Feb, as we were both being dealt with at the same time, i think they presumed it would go by unnoticed. Luckily my hubby had his witts about him and spotted it before we signed. Seriously naughty and underhand

I've pre-paid and registered through usrentacar so was intending to go straight to the garage and avoid any "upselling opportunities".

Pre paid with expedia and pre paid Loss damage waiver and SLI so all insurances were bought so nothing should have been extra apart from whatever taxkes etc

This is a very good warning, but maybe you do look super cute in your glasses and poor Sylvia just made an honest mistake. You may just be really really really good looking.

If you get charged for extras at Dennys, maybe consider dressing less sexy for breakfast! Just sayin

Its amazing that it happens so frequently and seemingly we are powerless. My son rents with most companies, but mostly Budget, and there is no upsell or underhandedness at all, but he comes from Canada and uses his Canadian Driving License. I'm sure its the Brits that are mostly affected. I rent from the offices in The Dolphin, and I've never had a problem there. I guess they don't want complaints to the hotel so they are more careful.

...but we aren't powerless are we? As long as you check the paperwork before you sign and ensure there are no additional charges you should be fine -- if you still get charged then you have the paperwork to back up your claim. Of course there will be a few that slip through the net, but all we have to do is spend a few minutes reading the paperwork before signing it.

Being tired after long flights is NOT an excuse - anyone who is too tired to read a piece of paper to check for additions is going to be too tired to drive a car imo...

Im just back today and I have experienced the same underhanded tactics from budget, they tried to add allsorts onto the contract, very forcefully told the staff member to remove all add-ons, except the pre-paid fuel. I have been renting from budget for years all be it from sanford without any issues, but this year flew into mco with thomas cook and faced this carry on

Just to say I know I should have checked. I was so geared up for a session of saying NO when she didnt offer me any additional insurances I just signed. Yes I cannot believe I did not check the sheet I thought I did - not sure how the hell I missed it as it was black and white the next morning.

it was how underhand it was that is the complaint here - she added it on without telling me and just was so matter of fact about the 'initial here, here and sign here' part.

Poor call on the part of Budget Rent a Car

We book with Virgin Holidays and use the V Room - last year, I did the car check in whilst in the V Room - it made life so much easier - no waiting in line, just wait to the garage, pick a car and go.

I assume its the same with online check in, so I'd strongly recommend that.
