It would be hard to mistake the two distinct flashes, I had one in August turning left at a major junction. The first flash I noticed as I crossed the line and was not sure if it was for me, the second one was when I was starting to turn at the far side of the junction this confirmed it was for me. I went back and checked as the cameras only normally work on one approach, in this case the one I had been on. I was certain the light was amber not only when I crossed the line but when I was completing the turn. When I looked into it the flash should be triggered if you cross on red but speed on approach can also trigger it, neither of which applied in my case. Another thing I was told was it may have been set off by someone turning right on red even if allowed and the lane can also go straight on, it will still flash twice. If that is true you may have done nothing wrong, only time and your credit card will tell. It will also flash if someone crosses the line and stops which I think may have happened in my case as the two lanes to my right were on red.
The system is when the lights flash the camera takes two pictures one of you crossing the line and the colour of the light the second showing you continue into or through the junction. A video camera also saves a recording the incident showing from the point before you crossed the line until you clear the junction. The images are reviewed by one organisation, if they think an offence has been committed it is passed to a second and totally separate review team. Only if both think it was an offence will you hear anything i.e. when Alamo charge your card. In my case I was certain I had not gone through on red, however as it was amber I was still in the wrong so I would have accepted it. I was also concerned as it turned out the camera had been a major problem and was catching people wrongly in a different location. As part of the review it had been moved to the junction I had the problem with. Mine was 12 weeks ago now and I have not been charged so the review system obviously works. Edited at 10:03 PM. |

Have a look at the junction on Google street view, you might be able to spot if there was a no right turn sign.

My dh did this at easter - following the car in front across one of those massive junctions. I realised at the time and we got the cc bill about 6 weeks after we got home - a couple of days before the explanatory letter. There was an email link and a little clip of us driving along in our (very distinctive) hire car. Think it was about £110 iirc.

This is interesting, if a little old:
Ticket for right on red? That's the price of cameras I've been rolling through right turn reds for years. Guess I'm going to have to be more careful next time in mouse country |

There are very few places where the lights are photo enforced that you'd be likely to go - the only ones I can think of are Universal/I-drive area and even then there aren't many!

Good point and this is the image of the cameras if anyone is interested:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@28.4627748,-81.464154,3a,75y,280.63h,95.58t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s7FJDxXr3KhE9AxtF9hYkHA!2e0!7i1 3312!8i6656 I will look out for them. I might even check the obvious intersections on my routes to see if there are any. |

You can still get a ticket, even if there isn't a camera. Easiest thing to do is just STOP! Not a rolling stop, a complete STOP, it really isn't that difficult.
