Triple Treat Tour Day 1 , Part 2 : Wall Street, Juliana's. Brooklyn Bridge

the first part of today is HERE

We arrived back at Battery Park and decided to walk up towards Wall Street to get the subway across to Brooklyn.

We enjoyed reading these on the Avenue of Heroes – although it is quite hazardous looking down while walking!

We found our way here

We took the 2 train across to Brooklyn

I think this was a debate about the need for food !

Ah, such cherubs …

We headed towards the waterfront - probably a 10 minute walk from the station

We could see a line outside Grimaldis

And a slightly smaller one outside Julianas – we had arrived just after midday

In the end it was a 40 minute wait. Andy spent most of that time chatting to a lawyer, who was very keen on British politics .

It was really hot and we almost gave up at one point.

Pleased that we didn’t !

The menfolk were sure they needed a large pizza each.

The waiter double checked with us and then came back with some cardboard cut outs showing the size of the pizzas. He said he couldn’t accept our order as he knew it would be far too much food for us.

I thought that was excellent – so we settled on just the three large pizzas between the 4 chaps and I had the meatballs and spaghetti

We had 2 large pepperoni pizzas, 1 large proscuitto, mushroom and onion pizza and one spaghetti with meatballs
.

Top tip, meatball sauce and white tee shirts are not a good idea

It was all delicious.

Suitably stuffed we waddled around DUMBO for a bit trying to find the way to the Brooklyn Bridge steps

We were on the verge of giving up and hailing a cab when lo, we found them – you can imagine the teens were thrilled at the prospect of more walking

What a crazy place the bridge is – people and all manner of wheeled vehicles not just bikes – we saw some hoverboards and a really cool electric monocycle thing

It was quite an experience

I tied one of Andy’s Mums hairbands on the bridge – a piece of her will be in New York after she passes on. I hadn’t told anyone that I was going to do it. I didn’t take a photo of it though so we wouldn’t be all maudlin. I am pleased we did it .

We exited and caught the subway from City Hall to 28th Street.

We were all flagging by now.

Its been a really great morning and we worked out we had walked almost 10 miles

OUCHA

As it was just after 2pm Andy went off to watch the Euros at a Belgian bar just around the corner from the hotel- he was back just after 3pm though as it was apparently ridiculously expensive in there.

The boys decamped to their rooms to watch tv and chill out.

We stopped at a 7 Eleven on the way and they picked up all manner of nasty Mountain Dew varieties to try out as they were on 2 bottles for $3.

I grabbed a coffee from the hotel breakfast area and had a pecan Danish

This was ridiculously delicious.

Everyone flaked out and we set the alarm for 6.30pm just to make sure we didn’t sleep too long and then wake up at stupid o ‘clock

The boys didn’t want to go out and were only a ittle peckish so Jamie came with us to pick up a McDonalds just around the corner from ShakeShack

It was something like $30 dollars for their three meals and drinks.

We weren’t hungry either so popped across the road from the hotel to the Smith bar

It was a really cool place, pretty busy and looked like it also served nice food

I started my cocktail a day quest by having a Rose Rose

Rose prosecco, vermouth, crčme de peche and mint.

Very nice

We had a couple of drinks but soon felt pretty knackered.

So we called it a day

The night time view from the room was spectacular

the next day is HERE

lovely thought about Andy's Mom.
You'll need new shoes after all that walking

Another great day to read about, thank you.

Cocktail looks delicious

How long did it take to walk over the bridge? What street is the start of the bridge on, do you know?

Loving this report

The trainers certainly earned their stripes on this day - by the time we got to Washington our feet were singing ! It was a fun day

Hello, thank you
This link may help you - its Cadman Plaza East
It took us about 30 minutes but we kept stopping and in some parts its really narrow - of course it was afternoon on a Saturday too so probably a peak time !

What a busy day in such a short timescale too. You did well to keep the boys going for 10 miles especially after all the steps earlier at the statue. The pizzas looked amazing by the way and yes, spaghetti and white t shirts are always risky.

It was a lovely idea to tie Andy's mum's hair band to the bridge. I had heard about the padlocks but the band is personal and very thoughtful.

The empire state looks so impressive lit at night. Great view from your room wasn't it? Must have felt a bit surreal.

Look forward to the next instalment xx
