Im gonna re-watch that episode again tonight just in case I missed anything being so shocked. I went from elated one minute to gasping out loud then to being upset. Gotta be the best programme I have ever watched in so many way, the acting of everyone is incredible.

Another one here who loves it. Absolutely horrifying & my heart is in my mouth constantly! Elizabeth Moss is indeed wonderful!

I’ve finally started season 2. I’m still finding it horrifying.

Why watch it if it is horrifying?

It is a work of fiction - "torture porn", "misery porn" are the 2 descriptors used in the press. Watching the fictional suffering of others for entertainment - and continuing to watch despite finding it horrifying seems a bit masochistic to me.

Just discovered The Handmaid's Tale has a Face Book page! A lot of spoilers in there tho. There is an episode coming telling us the back story of A. Lydia that looks good.

To me, it is horrifying to watch how the religious fundamental groups took over so easily.

How Women’s and other no desirables (in their eyes) rights were stripped away so easily, is awful and terrifying.

I want good to prevail over evil. The oppressed to rise up and break free. I’ll continue to watch it, as I really enjoy the show.

Maybe it is masochistic but then I also enjoy a wide range of movies from Disney to Tartan Asian Extreme.

It is fiction.

The "joy" of the book was that it left the interpretation of the endings up to the reader. So I would hope for the same ambiguity, but since the series have gone well beyond the content of the book already, I am sure we will get a "happily ever after".

I don’t think it is masochistic at all, people watch horror/slasher films all the time. People watch murder/crime shows.
These things are also horrifying but people still watch.

I actually find the handmaids tale fascinating because while it is a work of fiction, it isn’t that crazy to the point where it couldn’t happen. It is important for people to be educated about what could happen (all too quickly) if certain ideas get into government

While I think eventually Gilead will be brought down, I actually don’t think that the ending will feel happily ever after
