Crewing is crew sickness or crew shortages.

There was a Court case a while ago where BA said the fact their crew had gone sick was extraordinary circumstances and they therefore didn't have to pay compensation for the cancelled flight - they lost!

Thanks and one last question if you don't mind. Should BA be providing compensation for the last leg of the flight or should it be based on the interuption to the entire journey i.e. Miami to Manchester?

I'm pretty good at the easy ones such as MCO to MAN etc as thats clear cut.

I'm not an expert on indirect though. However my view is you had a ticket giving a final arrival time at your last destination thus they have breached that time and are liable.

As long as it was booked on one ticket then it should be for the entire journey. ie from Miami so you should get the higher rates.

Sometimes it works in your favour and other times it doesn't, if the flight is over 3 hours late for the first leg but the 2nd leg still goes on time you get nothing but those on the first leg get compensation. Other times the first leg could be 2 hours 59 minutes late but it results in you missing your last leg so you get compensation but those just doing the first leg get nothing.

If didn't know arrival time is the time the cabin doors are opened not landing time..

I’ve submitted a claim yesterday to BA but only quoted the lower figure as I thought it would be based on Heathrow to Manchester. Do I wait for their reply then say actually I believe it is from Miami and up the claim to €600 euros each? I’d be pretty chuffed if they paid out that!

Chances are if you have claimed for the lower amount then that is what BA are likely to payout without you claiming the higher amount.

I’ve emailed them quoting their reference saying that I believe the higher amount is due as it was a through ticket and an amending amount to €600 each. I can only try!
